Felt like sharing my day yesterday....not meant to generate any Bears/Packers debate, trash talking etc. but yesterday was a perfect sports day for me:
10:00- Arrive at the South Lot of Soldier Field where serious tailgating ensued for the next 3 hours
2:00- Bears vs. Saints kickoff (also the time my TiVo started recording MU/Pitt)
2:00 - 5:30- The Bears kick the holy crap out of New Orleans in the snow to advance to the Super Bowl (finally)
6:00 - 7:00- postgame tailgate in the South Lot...serious celebration time
7:30- phone call placed on the way home to Lou Malnati's to order the best pizza on the planet
8:30- pizza arrives, yet another beer is opened and my TiVo-recorded MU vs. Pitt game starts (as it turns out I'm glad I added an hour of extra recording time!)
8:30-10- watch MU beat the #6 ranked Pittsburgh Panthers on the road for the fourth straight Big East win
How about that FT shooting down the stretch?! Fitz finding his stroke....amongst other good things.
That, my friends, was a day I won't forget for a while...good times.
That does sound like a great Sunday although I'd prefer to have gone to the Colts game.
I do have to take issue with your statement that Lou's is the best. For deepdish, I'd have to go with Pequod's with their specially carmelized crust. And for Chicago stylee, there's none better than The Art of Pizza. If anyone is in Chicago and has the chance to visit either one, it's a must.
Oh no.. obviously neither of you have become acquainted with the double dough pizza from Gulo's Pizza Paddle in Buffalo Grove (on Dundee Rd. across the street from Buffalo Grove High School and next to The Melting Pot).
A tad bit of a hole in the wall but definitely the BEST.

Wait...that's not that place you keep talking about that has
thin crust pizza is it? :o

Sigh... One of the things I miss about being at school here and away from Chicago is the variety of great pizza spots. Aurelio's, Giordano's, Gino's East, Uno, the list goes on and on...

nooooo... hence the "double dough" specification :P
for thin crust go to either Chicago Classic Pizza in Island Lake (off route 176 about a mile west of rand rd/hwy 12).
or you can try barnaby's on rand rd just south of the hintz rd. intersection... also one in schaumburg.. the last few times we ate at barnaby's their sauce didn't seem quite right but that was nearly 2.5 years ago... :(

I concur.. living in dallas for those 2.5 years mentioned above has severely taxed my taste buds.. I need GOOD pizza.. GOOD italian beef.. GOOD chinese.. GOOD hotdogs... (not to mention GOOD basketball regularly :D) *sigh* perhaps someday we'll find ourselves back up that direction..
I can't believe you brought up the melting pot, everytime I drive past that place I'm amazed that a fondue restaurant even exists.

Then you've never been to Geja's on Armitage...one of the best/classic spots in the city...all fondue all the time....

I just had dinner there a few weeks ago (in Orlando). It was surprisingly fun. Not a place I'd go all the time (if you get the wrong stuff you can come out smelling like a McDonald's fryer), but I'd go back.

melting pot is very good.. my wife's favorite restaurant of all time.. so we go there 2-3 times a year or so..
start off with the beer cheese fondue appetizer
take the chef salad (dressing is SOOO good)
get the ultimate feast.. with coq au vin fondue..
wrap it up with the amaretto chocolate fondue desert
a nice bottle or two of wine (try a decent pinot noir) goes a long way too.
another AWESOME restaurant is Sal Y Carvao on algonquin rd. just west of meacham (near the alumni club). All-you-can-eat meat buffet on wheels basically.. Brazillian churrascaria.. There are a few churrascarias down here in dallas (fogo de chao is the best here but there's also texas de brazil and boi na braza) but Cal Y Carvao is the best one I have had anywhere.
Be warned.. both the melting pot and sal y carvao will set you back around $100 for two people.
You sound hungry today Spiral :P
You lost me at "Soldier Field"............although I saw "Lou Malnati's" so the post must have had a good point in there.

I was happy to not see
7:00 - 8:00 PM - Chicago Fire Dept. divers fished me out of Lake Michigan and transported me to local hospital.
I hope no one with ties to MU were among the 3 rocket scientists who required assistance getting out of Lake Michigan. Well, at least they didn't set any cars on fire.
I saw a Marquette flag flying over a tailgate party in the Planetarium parking lot. Good to see!!
Bears 24 Colts 21.
I didn't know I was going to start such a discussion on fondue eating with my comment, I may have to stop in an try that place now. I agree with you on Sal Carvo though - good good stuff.
ugh we have a melting pot here in So Cal...food was pretty good, but everyone I know, my self included, has had nausea and worse the day after
wellll.. considering you're responsible for cooking the food..... guess odds are you're the only one you can blame LOL :D course it coulda been the salad, sauces, appetizer morsels, or desert morsels I suppose! sorry to hear that - never had any issues but I've only been to the addison (TX) and buffalo grove (IL) ones.
I usually leave my food in for quite a while (around 3-4 minutes).. really soaks up the coq au vin and forces me to slow down and enjoy everything .. should also mention that you should be prepared for a 2-3 hour dinner if you go there. I usually put two pieces of meat/seafood on my fondue fork at a time.. helps bridge the 3-4 minute gap between forks and goes a little faster that way.
Gejas cafe is awsome.Melting pot is like the mcdonalds of fondue compared to gejas. Also, lou malnotis was my fav pizza place at one point but they are number two behind the silo in lake bluff
