Title: Cubillan
Post by: PE8983 on March 05, 2009, 08:24:08 AM
Check out his stats lately:

Last 13 games he's played in:
66 min
2 pts (FT)
2 reb
4 assts
1 steal
3 PF

Talk about invisible.  Given up how many on defense (liability)?  Won't shoot (probably shouldn't).  Overwhelmed player in the Big East.  Great bench teammate - should have been the 13th scholarship player.  Now thrown into the fire with our season on the line.

I would like to point out that this guy was an excellent bench player as a freshman, including a 20 point game or two in Big East games.

If he is healthy, I have to believe his lack of any kind of consistent playing time is what has rendered him useless.  He's always been a bit of a stretch in high D-1, SG skill set in a PG body.

His confidence on his shooting has never recovered from his shoulder problems, but the bigger issue I see is his feet seem slow now defensively.  I feel like that was not the case 2 years ago.  Did he have knee problems.  He seems to have lost his quickness, much like myself.

Right. He has definitely lost a couple or steps on defense. I'd love to see what his plus-minus is in Big East play.

He had an achilles problem at the beginning of this year.  But it was kind of glossed over because it occurred at the same time Otule and Fulce got hurt.

Trying to find something good to say, he hasn't had a turnover since Presbyterian.  :-\

actually, i thought cubillan has done a good job with the limited minutes he has had the last couple games.  while it is apparent he in under strict orders from buzz not to shoot, he does a good job of getting the ball where it needs to be.  the best thing he does is that he does not give up his dribble until he knows where he is going with the ball.  acker sometimes dribbles to a spot and then picks up his dribble with nowhere to go.  is cubillan a starter, no way.  but i think with a full offseason of recovery and shooting drills, he can give us 10 quality minutes a game off the bench like he used to.
