Surgery scheduled for James

Feb. 26, 2009

Dominic James is tentatively scheduled to undergo surgery on his fractured left foot Friday morning at Aurora Sinai Medical Center, MU media relations director Scott Kuykendall said today.

The senior guard will likely have a pin or screw inserted to help speed the healing process, and according to coach Buzz Williams is expected to need about three months to recover.

James, who will not accompany the team for its game at Louisville on Sunday if he does have the surgery, is expected to speak to the media at some point on Monday.

How will this 3 month recovery impact any workouts he would have normally scheduled with NBA and European league teams?  I'm ignorant of when that sort of stuff normally happens.

While the injury is obviously bad timing for his college career, how will this impact the start of his professional career (assuming he comes back full-strength at the end of May)?

Wish there was some way he could accompany his teammates to Cardinal Country. He's more than a sidelined point guard. He's part of the soul of this team on the emotional side, and almost like an assistant coach on the experience side. Maurice could use the prop.

Anybody know anybody with access to a private aircraft that could offer to shuttle him down there on Saturday?

That's another thing...just because he'll maybe heal in 3 months, his game will probably hindered to a degree...but then again hopefully not.  I wish the best for the guy.

I saw him and I think his family leaving Humphrey at 0535, probably heading to the hospital for his surgery.  I was late for something but I half blurted out a "good luck/get better" but I don't think they heard me.
