Title: Otule
Post by: Phi Iota Gamma 84 on February 26, 2009, 03:13:50 PM
Considering that Chris was injured to start the season and to date has only played in 7 games would he be in a position to apply for a 5th season of eligibility?  I know it takes longer for big men to develop and this could provide a benefit.

He's can't get another year of eligibility because he doesn't meet either of the requirements.

First, you must play only in the first half of the season.  Given that the NCAA Tournament doesn't count, and NCAA rules count conference tournaments as one total game, MU will play in a total of 32 official games this year.  That means all of his play would have to occur in the first 16 games, which it did not.

Secondly, he has to play in 20% or less of the team's games.  Right now he's played in 7, and as I said MU will play 32 total according to NCAA rules.  7/32= 21.88%

Not worried about this - chris will graduate and move on in  4 years.

But will he play in next three years?  Buzz has another project in McMorrow and Clark appears to be a PF.  But at least Clark has played competitive B-ball.

It seems way to early to tell.  Often 7' footers take time to grow into their bodies.  Most tend to be on the skinny side, and lack coordination as youngsters, but learn how to control their body as they get older.  Chris fits this to a tee.

That doesn't mean he is going to a star, but rather that patience with players like him (and Liam) is necessary.  Time will tell.

He's not missing PT because he is injured, he's missing it because he's not very good right now.

The missed time during the pre-season and non-conference games have left Chris far behind.  Hard to break in a kid like Chris during the BE season when you are playing for a championship.

Nukem2 - explain this one to me - How would PT in last night's game adversely effect Otule's development or the score in the game.

Exactly.  But you can't be granted an extra season because of a pre-season injury.  He is fine health-wise right now.

We saw a couple good things from him, and he got so far behind it was tough to get him in the lineup at this point.  Hopefully he will be better next year.  And hopefully Buzz won't be as obsessed with the small lineup that he keeps him out when he should be in.  Plus we have no idea what McMorrow could be like.  On the Buzz show a couple months ago he said he expects to be a legit 7'1" or 7'2" next year.  Hard to keep that on the bench completely unless he shows up to the game in a hockey uniform.

Buzz isn't obsessed with a small line-up he's obsessed with winning and can't tolerate bad players.  As a raw freshman who missed 2 months, that's what he is.
