Post by: MUUSC on February 24, 2009, 01:49:11 PM
or is it a lock at this point?

What would be necessary for National COY?

While Buzz has exceeded everyone's expectations I think it will be tough for him to win either because he is using another coaches players.

I would love to see Buzz win it but this is as good of a situation for any first year coach to fall into.

If MU finishes in the top 3, he gets the award IMO.  If we finish 4th, it will be close.  People in general aren't thrilled with Calhoun or Pitino, but there is some love out there for Dixon.  Buzz being the new guy helps him in my opinion.  He has no baggage that other coaches have just by being around for a number of years.

COY usually goes to the guy whose team exceeded expectations by the most, or if there is no one who fits that bill, the coach of the most dominant team.  I personally would give it to Mick Cronin, whose is doing a great job salvaging the mess at Cincy.  I think they have exceeded general expectations more than we have.  If we finish 14-4 or better, I think Buzz has a great chance to get it, though.
