Title: Alright guys, need your help
Post by: CTWarrior on February 23, 2009, 03:25:14 PM
We've just upgraded our SAP system at work, and I have daily global 8 AM and 8 PM (7 PM Central) meetings all week.  Also, on Wednesday night at 7 PM (6 PM Central) I have a PONY Baseball League meeting (I manage a 13-14 year old team).  Not only that, but my wife will be expecting to DVR both Lost and American Idol (two shoes at once is all my DVR can handle) during the MU-UConn game because she has work to do herself.

I assure you that I have my priorities straight and, despite these obstacles, I will be in my favorite chair watching the game live in glorious big screen plasma HD, despite the less than glorious headache-inducing commentary of one Dick Vitale (at least we're not playing Norda Dame).

What I need from the board is good excuses for
1) my boss (who is a big UConn fan that knows full well that I am angling to watch the game but figures if he can't watch it, neither should I.)
2) my wife (who will need to adjust her schedule to watch American Idol live on our smaller TV) and
3) the PONY Baseball League Director (myopic baseball guy who I think doesn't even know there are other sports)

You should not have gone to the Chinese Buffet for lunch (grab stomach)... wink wink.

As for your wife...

To my fellow Nutmegger, based on experience, I'm almost more sorry that you have to deal with the upgrade to SAP.

Flip out on everyone like you're having a nervous breakdown.  Fly to Milwaukee and enjoy the game.  Fly back home and rip up your clothes, roll in the mud and pour a fifth of vodka over yourself.  Beg your wife for forgiveness and promise that you'll repent.

If you do this, I will tell my girlfriend that she has to stay home for the game because one of my most awesome Internet friends is going to use my 2nd season ticket instead of her :p

Well, for the wife... there's always hulu.com which will allow her to watch lost or whatever and catch up on it perfectly fine without having to steal a TV.

Your baseball situation is a pinch... sounds like basically any excuse will work as the guy doesn't pay attention to any other sports really.

Your boss though, now that's a tough one... no ideas here.

This would work - but it's a "One Time Only" kinda thing.

Of course if Erin Andrews is going to be on the sidelines...  (Side Question: Who here knows what crew is working Wednesdays game?)

I second hulu.com.  I haven't watched a regularly aired show in ages.  They have the shows up by the next day at the latest.

I think you need to get a nasty dose of cryptosporidium, norovirus, or e. coli, then find a bathroom with a TV (or a TV with a bathroom).

Or you could slip yourself some ExLax!!

Evil, I know.  Yeah, tell your Mrs she can catch up on hulu, Lost can wait!

By the way, I have a similar dilemma for the Syracuse game . . . I am on call!!!!!!

I believe Hulu only has Fox and NBC shows because it is the joint venture between the two divisions of companies.  However, ABC has lost available on ABC.com.

A Mexican restaurant works just as well for me and is more enjoyable (in the in phase, at least).

I figured you guys would be a little more creative than me.  My current plan is

1)  Boss - I'm watching the game.  You wanna fire me and support Singapore yourself?
2)  Wife - I'm watching the game.  I'll take you out for a nice dinner on Friday.
3)  PONY League guy - Oh, was that meeting tonight?  I could have sworn it was on Thursday!

1.  Boss - tell him your wife is having a "woman" problem, he won't ask what it is because he's a guy and I'm sure he has a wife too.  Be sure to set this one up on Tuesday...

2.  Wife - watch Lost on ABC.com or buy it on iTunes.

3.  Baseball guy - tell him you were playing catch and you took a baseball to the nuts and can't move.  Other guys will sympathize.

Done.

Let's just hope your boss doesn't moonlight in OB/GYN  ;D

Also you could watch the game a at friend's house or go to a sports bar, too.

Call direct TV. With two dvr boxes, you can record 4 programs at once.

I'm oncall this week but I'm still going to the UCONN game.  4th row right behind Mr. Makestoomuchmoneyforsomestupidpsuedojournalisthippyjackass.

I am preparing to tell our NOC to shut up and figure it out themselves.

1)  Tell your boss you have a Ponly League Meeting and it is important to give back to the community through your volunteer work.

2)  Pony League - skip it - what are they going to do fire you?

3)  Wife - man up - tell her you are going to watch the Marquette / UConn game!!!

Hire Jonathan Xavier to enter your meetings and call time out.

Skatastrophy has the best solution... but don't fake it, actually GO on the bender.  It's good for the soul.  And it doesn't have to be just a "one time thing"... that all depends on how well you sell it each time.  It's what Method actors do every day...

LOST typically will re-aire either this Friday night, or next Wednesday prior to the new episode.  Done and done.

I hate to rub it in CT, but my wife surprised me last week by buying two very nice seats to Wednesday's game.  She and I will be in attendance.  Best surprise (and wife)  ever!

For the ND game, I had a conflict so I had the discipline not to check the score the entire time and was able to watch the game from 11-1 on ESPN 360.  It's really not bad since you get to skip the commercials like in DVR.

It took a ton of discipline not to check the score though.

Thanks for your suggestions.  I have the situation under control.

1.  I roped my assistant coach into attending the baseball meeting for me (he's missing the start of his kid's basketball game to attend)
2.  I explained to my boss I'll have to take the meeting from home since I have to leave the office for 5:30 mass on Ash Wednesday anyway.  There will be a lot of "I'm not sure I follow, could you please rephrase the question?" when I am called upon during the meeting.  I think I may have to actually go to mass (usually I do the noon ash ceremony that doesn't have a mass) to help avoid the whole eternal damnation thing.  (Besides, a prayer for the return of Hayward's 3 point touch couldn't hurt, could it?)
3.  The wife is gonna have to live without American Idol or watch it on hulu.com or live on the smaller TV.

Just for a little more help, I believe Gesu is having a mass at 10 PM after the game (if you happen to be close).

Tell your boss you can't work tonight, religious holiday (Ash Wednesday incase you forgot), gotta head to church.

Edit:  Bah, you got it all figured out already.  That's what I get for not reading the entire thread.

Don't worry, isn't MU basketball an extension of worship???  /end blasphemy

As many faithful catho'lics tell me, Ash Wednesday is not a holy day of obligation!  What will they  tell us next, Sundays aren't technically part of Lent!?
