Title: BEAST Tourney Seeding
Post by: avid1010 on February 21, 2009, 06:17:26 PM
How does the BEAST handle tiebreakers for the conf. tourney?  If MU and NOVA have the same conf. record??

Thanks...

Nova would win the tie breaker since they're the team furthest East.

From what I remember, I think in a head-to-head split they start at the top of the standings and go down.  The team with a win against the highest team in the standings that is unmatched by the other tied team wins the tiebreaker.  So Nova has beaten Pitt, lost to Uconn, lost to Louisville.

Good news is we've already clinched a top 6 seed.  Nova and Cuse play tomorrow.  A win by Nova means we finish no worse than 5th.  A win by Cuse gives us some breathing room over Nova.  Nova also has to play at Notre Dame.  After Nova, Syracuse has three likely wins until they come to play us.

Looking at the tie breaker scenario, if Marquette and Nova post identical records in conference play, Nova would more than likely hold the advantage because of its win over Pitt.  The tiebreaker would be each team's record vs. the team or teams atop the Big East standings.  Pitt has a terrific chance to finish number one based on its remaining schedule.  If the Panthers beat Marquette at home and finish the regular season in first place all by their lonesome, Nova would win the breaker.  Hopefully MU takes care of business in the final two home games and we likely do not have to worry about a tie breaker for fourth place.  Perhaps the team can even steal one on the road against Pitt or Louisville.   Wow, the last two weeks are going to fun to watch in this conference.
