Just received this weeks issue of SI. There is a huge article about how tough the BEast is. (duh) Marquette is mentioned twice, once regarding Jerel, and the other, in parentheses, to dis how MU/USF does not scream Big East. Oh, yeah, there is a picture of Wes getting mugged. Steve Rushin needs to get his old job back and set them straight. Unreal.
-
Does SF scream anything? Its a shame they denigrate MU - we've been involved in some great BE games over the years and as previously noted, have been very successful since joining the league.
-
who wrote the article?

Article is here:

Written by Jack McCallum. Stupidly spans 5 pages instead of the whole article being on one. Marquette mentioned on page 3, McNeal name dropped on the first page at least

What a dumb comment. It's the fourth year of the new BE, of course it doesn't SOUND like a BE game when there's 25 years of previous history of the BE.
-
I don't think it's a "dis" at all. When talking about the BE's encumbent talent, it mentions Thabeet, Harangody and Jerel, which is fair. The focus of the story was following Syracuse for a week, and they didn't play Marquette, so it's not surprising that we don't get much ink. It's also not surprising that Marquette-USF doesn't get much attention either, and the comment about not screaming Big East was because it is "geographically quizzical", i.e., neither Milwaukee nor South Florida is in the Northeast, which we associate with the Big East.

That's how I read it too. MU doesn't resonate as a BE team becuase of its location.
-
He's not dissing our program.
He was talking about geography, hence "geographically quizzical."
-
I guess he was trying to say the Big East is not really the Big East the way the Big Ten is not really the Big Ten!
-
At least the BE isn't the Atlantic 10, with 14 teams, including Dayton, Xavier, and St. Louis.

+1. You have thin skin. The article was about how the Big East really is a B-EAST. It also mentions MU positively in reference.

Just received this weeks issue of SI.
I received another issue of SI this week, and it was a lot more interesting that mis-perceived slights of Marquette University. Here is a highlight:

I have been a loyal reader of your magazine for thirty years. When I came home from work today and saw my 16 year old son reading your soft porn issue was appalled. Please cancel my subscription immediately.

Since the swimsuit issue is no longer a regular issue of SI with a photo section, I love the letters that they get and run even more now.

You hated it so much you had to quote Ave. Commons so the pic would run again...that's genius...

I love those letters to the editor. They're hilarious in their sanctimony. SI Swimsuit Edition is an American tradition. Every girl in it is happy to be included. Andy Roddick is one lucky dude.

Could a moderator or the OP put an NSFW tag in the topic title so that I stop clicking this at work, please. I'd rather not risk losing my job in this economy.

Dont read it at work then. The mods have enough to do.

Thank you for your enlightened suggestion. You're a great help ::)
The mods have enough to do.
It's a 10 second change, tops. I also asked the OP (tower) to make the change too, just in case he sees the post first..
This is the basketball forum, not the "post anorexic nubile teens in swimsuits" forum. I realize that the mods have real-life jobs to do outside of this forum. I've moderated a number of large forums before. If you're a mod or admin, you have also made a commitment to keeping the forums relatively clean.
If a mod or the OP doesn't want to make the change, they can say so themselves. It's not an outlandish request to put a NSFW tag on the thread title for those of us that wouldn't expect to find crap like this on a basketball forum.

If you are so worried about your job, then maybe you shouldn't be on basketball message boards. Don't mean to sound callous, but its something to consider.

I'm not concerned about my job in general, nor am I concerned about my job with regards to cruising around basketball forums. As the previous post says, it's not a great career move to have someone pop into my office only to see me looking at a great rack.
It's common courtesy to tag a thread as NSFW. I'm not saying I don't appreciate the content. I'm simply stating that when there's tits, out of nowhere, on a page someone is going to get busted by a coworker/girlfriend/wife/kid and have to explain it away. Not a horrible thing, just an unnecessary PITA.
-
Skat - just stop reading the thread. I don't think we've ever had a thread tagged NSFW here at scoop. We certainly don't want anyone to get fired for reading MUScoop, however if it happened, it wouldn't *really* be our fault, would it?
I don't think this thread needs any more bikini pics either. There are other sites for that.
Back to the OP, I don't think it was a Dis at all.
