Title: MU #11
Post by: buckchuckler on February 16, 2009, 12:13:50 PM
in ESPN poll.  Wake didn't drop at all after losing to NC State.  And Louisville didn't drop after losing @ ND.  MSU, with 2 questionable home conference losses, jumps to #5.  MU jumped UCLA (15) and Clemson(13), with Mizzou, jumping (10)MU.

That is total BS that Looserville does not drop. They have 5 losses, including the 33 point debacle to ND, who is unranked. We drop 1, losing to a ranked team, and Pitino who most believe is a god does not drop? Bull!!!!

We actually move up one spot in the coaches poll.  This week's poll is baffling.  L'ville not dropping after a 33 pt loss to unranked team is ridiculous.  Mizzou jumping 10 spots for beating #16 Kansas by 2 at home and an unranked Nebraska team at home is a little generous.  Dayton cannot crack the top 25....Arizona should be getting more votes also...6 straight wins and killed UCLA.

All good points.

Dayton DESERVES to be in.

Louisville must've gotten the benefit of losing to a "brand name" team, ND.

Also, look at Bracketology: Xavier is a 3 seed and Dayton is a 6 seed--even though Dayton has a better record and beat Xavier. Louisville is a 2 seed.

Once again, these so called experts that get paid big$ go with the name schools or big BS'ers.

Why can't Dayton get in? They play in a decent conference, only have 3 loses, and have beaten Marquette and Xavier. If I was a UD fan, I'd be pissed.

Seriously, Dayton is getting screwed.  They have 2 wins better than any UCLA has.

Actually the biggest joke of all is Memphis ...thay have not beaten a ranked team this year.  After Tennesee their biggest win is arguably UAB

Well, they did beat #18 Gonzaga out in Spokane about 10 days ago. Memphis is a good team regardless of what conference they play in. IMO, Memphis is a little better than MU. Don't be fooled by the fact they lost Rose, Douglas-Roberts, and Dorsey. Memphis is still longer, more athletic, and deeper than us. They're like Tennessee who MU lost to, but better. Their Top 4 players aren't better than James, McNeal, Matthews, and Hayward. However, the fact they can go deeper into their bench and still match up decently with our Big 4 makes them slightly better.

A 24-2 record is nice, but Utah St. is a bit of a head-scratcher.  Their best road win is, um, RPI #126 New Mexico St.?

OK, guys. This is why we have the 'Big Dance' (is that a McGuireism?) at the end of the season. It will all be settled on the court, not by some Coaches or AP writers poll. Who knows, even Utah State could be National Champion if they win their conference.

I don't have a problem with Memphis.  At least they don't have any bad losses.  But as for Memphis being better than MU, there are a lot of common opponents.  Memphis lost to Georgetown and Syracuse, but defeated Tennessee (Memphis also lost to an A-10 team in Xavier).  They have also beat Seton Hall and Cincinnati.  Memphis really played a lot of Big East teams. Based on this, the teams look pretty similar.

I saw this on Yahoo!  Michael Vega is an AP voter working for the Boston Globe...Of the 25 teams he ranked he had 12 team ranked either higher or lower than any other voter in America.  This guy apparently loves mid majors as he has Butler and Dayton at #6 & #7 (w/ MU at #8)

Highest:
6. Butler
7. Dayton
14. Washington
20. Utah State

Lowest:
16. Wake Forest
17. Loserville
21. Villanova
25. Duke
NR ASU
NR UCLA

One other interesting note: Dickie V has MU rated the highest of anyone in the country at #7.
