i think St. John's will be at the end of a team looking for redemption.  how Seton Hall (they're beating DePaul pretty solidly right now in chicago) comes off their game with UConn could spell trouble.

those famous final 5 are going to be more difficult than anyone here thought a couple weeks ago.  especially those 3 away games.  i'm saying maybe 1-4 in last 5 (win coming against 'Cuse).  hoping i'm proved wrong, but...

One dispute with the poll.  I don't think losing 5 of the last 7 would really be "gut check" time.

Most people have been saying 5 losses in the last 5 wouldn't be too surprising.  I know people have adjusted their expectations a bit, but still 2-5 in the last 7 would be more like "disappointing, but expected".

MU should be favored in 4 of the last 7.  I don't think going 2-5 would be expected.  I'm thinking 4-3 (prolly win one of UConn, Pitt, Louisville and drop one of GT, Cuse).

i called it a "gut check" because that's what they'll need to get into that flow for the tournaments.  so they can get back to playing the Marquette basketball that brought them success.  tonight i witnessed more than a few times when all 5 guys were 12+ft from the hoop and settled for a long jump shotwithout even attemptinga drive.  tonight we had hayward and mcneal shooting 8 and 9 three pointers apiece.  James added another 9 the other nite.  .435 and .556 free throw % the last two games.

it's laziness, or selfishness, or fatigue, but they need to snap out of it otherwise those last 6 will be brutal.

"reality check" is where i think they should be.  winning St. John, Seton Hall, 'Cuse with another one maybe tacked on.  but being competitive with the others.  playing to their strengths, which isn't everyone shooting 10ft+ jump shots.

I guess my issue is that while we have a chance at beating Georgetown and Syracuse, and may even be favored, they are both dangerous teams and thus I can't expect to win either of those.

Don't get me wrong though, I also think we'll win at least 3 of our last 7.  It's just hard for me to pin any individual game as a win expect for SJ and SHU.  Then again, you can't always claim "easy" games as wins either.  I guess that's why the games are played.
