Title: 12 - 6 In The Big East
Post by: warriorfred on February 10, 2009, 08:29:21 PM
12 - 6 in the Big East isn't too bad, but it is disappointing after the fast start.  I'll go out on a limb and say that MU goes 1 -1 in the Big East Tourney.  All in all, that is not a bad season.

looking at another good but not great season...

12 - 6 is about right, we are undersized, under-manned, can't hit free throws but have freakishly good guards

fighting for 5th in the big east, fighting for a 5 or 6 seed in the tourney...

Welcome to the board guys.

Obviously you're not here very often. Road wins in the big east are tough to come by.

Exactly.  Road wins are that tough, especially when there's a, now, 26 game home win streak for your opponent.  There's plenty of things the team needs to work on ... our D needs to show on Sat for 1.  We'll see where we are after the next two home games.  Hopefully they'll get some energy and life back after being in the BC and be pumped for the road.

We know these guys can play ... I'd rather keep the doubters doubting than have a target on our backs like we used to.  We still have a great chance for the BE and NCAA.

11-7 0-1 and a trip to the NIT.

kenpom (who is pretty accurate at this point of the season) has us at 3 - 6 the last 9 games now...     with how we looked tonight, @SF and @Depaul - do you really think we have a good shot in winning any of the last 5?

looks like a 12 - 6 in the Big East or maybe 11 -7 - what does that get you?

5th or 6th in the Big East,  5 or 6 in the tourney...

I love how we lose two in a row and people start panicking....believe it or not we are still a great basketball team.  Okay, so we had a conference let down on the road at USF.  This game tonight we were not expected to win and we ran into one of the hottest offensive teams in the country.  There is no way we "Notre Dame" it and lose the last 5 tough conference games.... No chance

If anything the guys can look at ND and say "no ... that's not going to be us too!".

-50000000000000000000000000 no way in hell 11 wins in the BEAST gets you a trip to the NIT. I think we still go 13-5 anyways.

Give me a fu#$ing break.  Jump off the ledge a little more.

Should Win
SHU
SJU

Will be Favored
GT
Cuse

Tough Wins
UConn
Louis
Pitt

MU will prolly face either Rutgers or DePaul in first round if they don't get double bye.

So you think MU will only win 2 games the rest of the way?  I think that's highly doubtful.  In addition, there is absolutely no way in HELL any Big East team gets left out of the NCAA if they go 11-7 in conference, even if they are 2-8 in their last 10 games.

Title: we need to focus in and beat SJU and SH, if we do that we will be fine
Post by: bamamarquettefan on February 10, 2009, 10:24:51 PM
If you watched the Syracuse-Villanova game, it was identical to ours.  We looked exactly as good as Syracuse did on the same court.  I think we win that one to close out the season.

If we win the next two, we are fine for the NCAA I believe.  Seton Hall does scare me how tough and big they've been playing.  St. John's played Louisville tough until the last five minutes.  We just need to lock down and nail down those two wins.

The margin was the disappointment tonight, but we all knew this would be a tough one to pull out even while we were rolling.

Let's also not forget ... we split the two games we played with 'Nova.  Have we beaten anyone? Yes!  GU has had some issues, but even if we split that one too it's OK.  We're in a position to get a decent position in the NCAA, and if the BE tourney is a write-off because of a >4 seed, then w/e ... I care more about the NCAA.  I've said this before ... Keep the doubters doubting and you're in a position to shock the world.  We're still more than capable of doing well.

I'm a Browns fan, trust me, I know a thing or two about calling the season a waste early.  We're not even remotely close to that point here.

I should re-adjust my post:   12 - 6 in the Big East is probably a 6 or 7 seed in the NCAA  (especially with a bad last 10 games record)...

I am a big fan, just see a team on a bad trend (not too mention tired, undersized, no bench) coming up on the worst part of their schedule...

12 - 6 will be realistic.  To get to 12 - 6 - can't blow a game to St J or SH, must beat 2 of the Big 5 - @GT and Syracuse?, losses to UCONN, @PIT, @UL)  - that's 12 - 6.

12-6 is highly do-able.  Should beat SJU and SH so 13 wins is still within our sights.

Actually isn't it 13-5?

9 Current Wins
+2 (SJU & SH)
+2 (Of "Big 5")

We're looking at 13-5. We'll win the next two at home and should take G'Town there and Syracuse at home. If you're expecting anything less, then these last two losses have demoralized you past the point of no return. Yes, we were outmatched last night (big-time) but we're still in the upper level of the BE unless we falter at home.

And, there should be zero NIT talk on this board. As down as I was last night after watching Nova rip through our "defense," it never crossed my mind that we are an NIT team.

because we are a lock for the NCAA tournament.

If we don't get in, I will eat my shoe.

we are already a 20 game winner, and have won 9 (we will win at least 2 more) conference games.

does that sound like an NIT team's resume?
