Title: What happened to our defense?
Post by: g0ldmember42 on February 10, 2009, 08:25:25 PM
Seriously lacking defensive intensity the past two games. James is getting schooled by Reynolds and Fischer. Looks like he's tired practically falling asleep on D. Inconsistency is gonna hurt when our seniors can't keep it together.

The defence is very bad.  They can't stay in front of their man and Villonova has had a lot of open looks.  They deserve to lose if they play like this and it looks like the team is going to lose.

That was easily one of the worst defensive performances I have ever seen.

I didn't think it was THAT bad.  They made about every three pointer in the second half.

Alright I know our defense was terrible tonight but let's also think about how hot Villanova's offense has been lately.  I mean I know we had an awful defensive game tonight but it was obvious Nova was hot and deserves some credit for knocking down the shots.

Exactly.  It's hard to stop a team when you have to extend your defense out to 25 feet from the basket.  That led to a lot of the easy buckets inside that Villanova got over the course of the game.

I don't know of too many teams that would have beaten Villanova tonight given the way they shot the ball.

Reynolds hit some ridiculous shots tonight.

Yes, we may have played better D on him when we played on new years day, but in general he didn't make those the last time we played.  I maintain he WAS the (big) difference today.

Reynolds:
1/01/09 - 6-15 FG  - 15 pts
2/10/09 - 10-17  FG - 27 pts

For God's sake, get a grip.  They're a really good basketball team, playing at home, and they had to shoot >60%.  Yeah, the under-50 post chicken littles are coming out...

You're right. If you have under 50 posts on the scoop, you're a terrible fan and have no idea what you're talking about.

I assume your post should have been in teal?

Our defense is related to the fact we don't have a big man. Barro would be welcome about now! Buzz played help defense all night and we got burned by hot outside shooting. I think we could have played man if Zar had 10 fouls to give.

Buzz knew this team before the season and he is proving correct.

I hope no one is questioning his recruiting of size right now?
