Agreed. It doesn't matter if we drive and get fouled if we can't make our free throws. Makes me nauseous. Mental mistakes.

if kids won't do it on their own, you MAKE them do it.

Bring it old school Bobby Knight style and keep them in the gym to make 100 free throws each. Don't deserve the glory if you can't take care of business at the line. Its all mental.

Defense, more bench minutes, bad press or free throws take your pick.

Do you all really think these guys aren't in the gym practicing free throws on their own time?

after these last few games, do you?

like an 8th grader who says their homework is done, 'sure coach, I practiced my FT's instead of my badazz to the rim moves!'

right.

Seabiscuit really wants you to take it easy on him.

It's mental. Absolutely 100% mental. They allowed themselves to be taken out of the game mentally, due in large part to the whistles.

Yeah, that's what we need, change everything.  Panic.  run around like chickens without heads.

If you think the reason we underperformed at the FT line was lack of practice, explain the first 20 games (71% for the year).

An extra 3-4 points from the line was not the difference in this game.  We allowed 102 points tonight.  This team needs to spend more time practicing defense and slowing down the game on the offensive end.

we already apparently spend 75% of practice on Defense. They also dropped over 100 on Syracuse.

I think this game had more to do with Nova being on fire than anything bad we did.

They couldn't miss but those shots were way too wide open for a team that couldn't miss.

DJ needs to see a therapist for his problems @ the line.  It is insane.  It is purely concentration.  These guys are in a total funk...distracted and it is reflected in their play right now.

The D is a concern.  Weak, not moving their feet.

That's a shallow look at things re: free throws.

MU continues to miss the front end of 1-and-1s during crucial moments of the game, whether it be clinging to a 6 point lead on the road to extend it to 8 or whether it be down 6 and trying to stem the tide of momentum against.

The game is all about momentum and disregarding the momentum you can generate, or stunt, at the free throw line is unwise.

You can't complain about a loss like that... How often does it happen that we shoot that high of a percentage and lose? Also its the BIG EAST. Period. Big East.  Home games in the BIG EAST are such an advantage. Look at the arena they just played in... That's hard to play there! It was so loud there. These losses happen, its home court Big East basketball, simple as that. We weren't going to win out in the Big East, I mean come on... We lost a game. So what. They need to reestablish a rhythm, say against St. Johns at home...

No its not.  How many 1 and 1s did we miss tonight?  2?  Most were shooting fouls where we went 1 for 2 from the line.  Free throws did not cost us this game.  Our inability to defend cost us this game.   Our inability to make multiple stops killed momentum.  Our inability to not play out of control on the offensive end cost us this game.  Too many turnovers and bad shots killed momentum.  Everything was rushed and for no reason.  We have no depth and we want to run and gun?????? You can get away with playing 7 players if the tempo is slow.  Nova was so wide open on so many shots, it was pathetic.

IMHO...its all about quality over quantity...shooting 100 free throws before they can leave practice is not the answer....Buzz needs to get them in the mind set of making the current free throw in front of them which can be done by stopping practice at a random time and telling everyone on the team they have two free throws...and thats it.  They shoot the two and move on with practice and you don't let them shoot anymore FT's that practice...this accomplishes two things...one you don't spend valuable practice time standing around shooting FT's which is obviously what Buzz doesn't want to do and you get the guys heads right because when you only have one chance to make these during practice you'll see guys focusing more on their two shots than if they shoot 100 of them.

Then you're delusional, Cuse's defense has been awful in Big East play....and frankly so has Marquette's.  The 3 point shot is not a difficult shot if you're wide open.  Big mistake fronting Cunningham, should have played the same defense we did against ND.  When Nova swung the ball and skip passed their shooters were WIDE open because of weak side help.  When you let Nova get into rythm they are going to hurt you.  Sure they were on fire, but MU let them get there.  No excuse, awful defense....they will lose the last 5 games if they play defense like that.

Everyone laughed it off when we heard that Buzz doesn't practice free throws....its completely crazy and arrogant.
