Defense even worse.
Defense isn't really alllll that bad, it's not good, but Villanova is just ridiculous behind the line tonight.
But yes, the officiating is horrible, horrendous.
Agree that the officiating was horrible, but the lack of defense, and cold shooting doesn't help. If it was close, I'd be really ticked about the officiating.
Likewise ... I was trying to find out where our D has been. I have since given up hope.
warriorfred and krocheck, great contributions to the board tonight.
The team that nearly loses by 20 doesn't get to complain about officiating.
We can compain about he officiating, just can't put the blame on it. I was yelling at the tv a number of times for BS offensive calls.

True, I never blame the officials for a loss, but there were a number of questionable calls both ways. At least Tim Higgins wasn't on the court. The only thing I like about him is that he's very quick to stop play if he thinks/sees a player injured. Other than that I've seen more blown calls by him than I think the rest of them combined ... only a little kidding too!
Keith
I've been fine with Higgins this season so far.
Officiating was bad. We were out of control offensively and defensively we left players wide open.
The officials had little or no impact on tonight's game. When you lose by 18 points and are outplayed in every single aspect of the game, the officials have nothing to do with the outcome.

-1
When they call charges on us and take away 2 pts and that leads to 2 pts the other way, that prevents any buildup of momentum.
I'm not gonna blame the loss on the refs, but they were very bad.

We stunk it up. Quit blaming refs. What a BS excuse. We flat out lost the game. The lack of a bench cannot be more obvious.

Amen. We stunk it up and Villanova was unstoppable. 18 points is too wide a margin to blame the refs. We lost because we played poorly and Villanova was awesome.
Sorry but the turning point in game (momentum) was when Jerel got absolutely hammered on one end of the court during a layup and got no call, then Fisher takes the ball and TRAVELS on his shot as Lazar is called for a terrible foul. potential 5 point swing on TWO STRAIGHT bad calls.
I just finished watching on dvr and the officiating was horrible. It seemed like we went up seven in the first half and then we had all momentum taken away by the officials. I don't consider these guys a bunch of crybabies and they expressed their views to refs to no avail. Villanova was very good at pushing on the backs of our players when they had position and MU went up for rebounds. Villanova was also very good at the pushoff when driving to the hoop. Our players presented their case but didn't let it affect their play. I didn't realize Vill. had perfected the Duke flop as well. We had a number of offensive fouls called where the defender was still moving and leaned into our player. I was amazed at how many times a MU player drove to the basket and a charge was called despite it just being one leg to the side of a defenders body.
I realize we lost the second half on our own but these guys got screwed in the first half. I was amazed at home court in the BE last year and it hasn't changed. I would also like to question our free throw shooting and credit Vill. for shooting lights out all night.

Agree 100%. This was a huge swing at the time and you are spot-on in your analysis. When the ref blew the whistle I was certain he was going to call a travel.
The was the worst officiated game of the season. The refs alternately let everything go then called ticky-tack stuff, and more importantly to us, we definitely got the short end of the whistle. But refs generally favor the more aggressive team and that coupled with the home court probably had everything to do with it. The way we played defense and the way they played offense, the more deserving team won, but that doesn't mean that the refs weren't terrible.
A couple times it seemed like Dwight got whistled for just looking at guys. And the last time Wes drove down the lane my daughter tripped over some toys, fell down, and Wes picked up another charge.
Officiating seemed pretty even handed to me.
take off the homer goggles and rewatch the game.

I agree, we got the benefit of some questionable calls and so did Nova. In the end, as others have said, we did not lose becasue of the officials.

sorry but that is when a great team sucks it up and plays through the officiating. Take off the homer glasses
The officiating was fine, overall. However, it only takes one or two bad calls to change a game. Think about Ooze a couple of years ago against Wiscy. Borderline call with two guys going for a loose ball, it goes against Ooze, he now has to come out because he is in foul trouble. and the Badgers pull away. In the nova game, the sequence where Jerel got no call on the offensive end while getting thrown to the floor, then having Reynolds go hard to the basket, travel while jumping into Lazar and getting the 'and 1' turned the game. Officials miss calls all of the time. Sometimes, seemingly little ones dictate momentum. This is one of those cases. But, Villanova is extremely hot right now, and our lack of stops was far more of a factor than the officiating.
