Seems like it's going to be a big MU turnout tonight. In the past it's typically split around 50/50 MU/DePaul crowd (maybe 60/40 in favor of DePaul) at these games. I'm thinking it's going to be a "home" crowd for MU tonight, maybe 2/3 MU. Let's hope so--might help avoid a letdown against a winless team that we didn't dominate recently at home. Would be nice to get some help from the bench tonight with a busy week ahead for the team.
Anyone have a report on how the MU crowd size was last night? From listening to the cheering when each team scored, it almost sounded like it was at least 50/50. "We are Marquette" was VERY audible at the end. The AP story on the game even makes mention of it:
"That speed helped create 21 points off 16 turnovers for Marquette, which was 28-of-49 from the field. If there was one area of concern for Marquette it was on the glass, where it was outrebounded 35-29.
Even so, they prevailed. And as the final seconds ticked away, a large chunk of Golden Eagles fans chanted: "We are ... Marquette! We are ... Marquette."

There were a lot of golden jerseys everywhere in almost every section except the small DePaul student section. I'd have to guess we had about as many fans there as DePaul did. We were pretty quiet though after the DePaul run in the first half, and rose to life a few times int he second half. I know a DePaul fan a couple rows ahead of me kept giving me dirty looks whenever I'd cheer and scream. So for the most part, the DePaul fans were not into it and many left early The "We are. . .Marquette" chant at the end was the icing on the cake. . It was loud and deliberate and resonated all over the place - glad it came through on the broadcast. because, afterall, We are . . .Marquette!!
I anticipated a bigger MU crowd. There was a big representation, but DePaul had more fans - maybe 60/40. The DePaul crowd really got into it during the run in the first half and I was a bit surprised how many of them there were.
Watching it on TV, it reminded me of a neutral site game with solid representation by both teams. You could hear cheers after most plays for either team. I liked it.
The "WE ARE...MARQUETTE!!" cheer at the end was VERY audible on TV, and, totally awesome.
I especially liked the 'boos' you could hear when some questionable calls were made
There was a good mix... a lot more Marquette people were in the top sections... more Depaul in the lower bowl.
Maybe it was because the game was only exciting when Depaul made their run, but I would characterize the Marquette fans as quite mellow. Maybe the expectations were to win, so people just weren't cheering as much- but there was plenty to cheer about in my opinion.
The funny thing I thought was they continuously showed the same 10 people from the Depaul student section on the jumbotron.
The DePaul student section was very small. It's a shame in a way when you look around and see all the Final Four, Elite 8 etc. banners around the arena, that DePaul is where it is today.
That said, I never want them to do better than MU, or recruit better than MU :)
you guys are nuts if you think that crowd was 50/50. i would say it was atleast 65/35 in favor of marquette. if marquette fans weren't there that place would have had 2000 people in the stands. DePaul fans only got loud when they went on that run. Marquette fans stayed quiet for the most part since the game was never in doubt.
i did enjoy being able to yell at the depaul players and know they could hear me since it dead silent during free throws. i managed to upset a couple of depaul fans that were sitting close. mission accomplised.

Definitely in favor of MU, 65/35 is pretty accurate. It's like all the MU fans knew it was in the bag and were there to sit back and take in the game

Agreed. I was there and DePaul was easily outnumbered by MU fans. It wasn't really close.

I'd agree....it was similar to the Dayton game....there was an expectation that MU would win and the MU contingent was fairly mellow. Although, this time we had an MU student section at the game which was very vocal....nice work!
Yeah, seemed about right, especially considering how deafening that "We Are Marquette" chant was at the end.
If DePaul could ever turn that thing around and get their fans in there, with the way the seats are laid out and the wooden roof, the place could be an absolute pit.
I say min. 65/35 in favor of MU.

Were you the cat that was yelling such gems as "YOUR MOM WORKS AT IHOP," "YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER DOESN'T EVEN LOVE YOU ANYMORE," "HEY FREE THROW SHOOTER, I CAN'T YELL ANYMORE BECAUSE THE GIRL IN FRONT WON'T LET ME," and "JAMES, YOU'RE WIDE OPEN!! NO ONE CAN BLOCK YOU!!" (when DJ was shooting free throws)? Not too sure about the last one, but you definitely had some gems (if that was you).
I will never call it Bradley Center South... a spoof from the FIBS who give Miller Park a different name.
That being said, it was nice to hear a good MU turnout at the game. It's great that these fans travel well

Settle down, don't forget that us "FIBS" made up a majority of the fans wearing gold last night.
55/45 - Marquette/DePaul.

I think you meant to say " they continuously showed ALL 10 people in the Depaul student section." ;)
At least 65/35 MU fans in my opinion--just quiet until the end. Great "We are Marquette" chant at the end though.
Pretty funny walking around before the game--saw about 30 MU fans before I saw the first DePaul fan.

yeah, that was me. it sure was fun. my favorite one was yelling at the little white pointguard from depaul that "his teammates laugh at him in the shower." and to be fair, we only yelled when james missed and we would say "you're wide open" and "no one is guarding you", but before every james free throw i would also yell "i believe in you".
Ha, I forgot about the best one! Very Curb Your Enthusiasm-esque with the level of hilarity and extreme awkwardness. I actually thought the James comments were funny, especially because it was absolutely silent when a player was at the line and there was no doubt the shooter could hear you loud and clear. He had to appreciate the vote of confidence!
