Title: Science Library
Post by: jce on January 30, 2009, 08:06:22 AM
I am sure that everyone who went to MU 20+ years ago remembers this place.  If you needed to get some hard core work done, the "Sci Li" was the place to go.

Apparently it is gone now, with the construction of the Raynor Library.  Can anyone tell me what is in its place now?  It was located on the far south "Schroeder Complex" entrance off of 16th Street.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but when they opened Raynor they moved those materials over and renovated the place. I think it now houses the Speech Pathology program.

Actually, the Science Library is still in the Southwest corner of Schroeder Complex/Cramer Annex.  However, as far as I can tell, it's not staffed and I've never heard of anyone going there.  You can see it as you walk down the back stairwell or if you leave Schroeder through the Pit.

I can remember more than one occasion, looking at my "to-do" list of studying and coming to the realization that there was no way I was going to get it done with my roommates watching ESPN in the house.  The Science Library was the only place to go.

It definitely got me through Thermo.

The first floor has been converted to the Faber Center for Spirituality and offices for the newly minted College of Education.  The remaining floors remain physically unchanged as storage space for the libraries.

I'm not sure I remember anyone working there at night. I do remember they had motion sensor lights back in the 80's and there were no distractions such as friends, magazines, or papers. I might not have graduated if it wasn't for this place.
