I love Buzz and his staff's in-game coaching changes. We've never been the ones to make an in game change that changes the outcome of a game. (At least in the past 9 years) the 1-3-1 against WVU and last night going small for pretty much the rest of the game was HUGE. Buzz and the staff saw just how much quicker we were than ND and flexed our strength. I mean we had Mo, James, Wes, Jerel, and Lazar (who did a helluva job on Harangody, along with Wes) for about the last 8 minutes. Meanwhile ND had Harangody, Zeller, Hillsdale, Ayers, etc and they looked like they were in concrete with Mo, DJ, Wes, and company hounding those guys on the perimeter. (Not to mention that we still outscored ND in the paint 36-20)Great great in game decision.
Sorry if this comes across as a back handed insult to Crean.
+1
Going small against PC may have been the deciding factor in that victory as well. And don't forgot how well the 1-3-1 worked against Bucky, too. Keep it up Buzzerton

Nothing backhanded about that. Forehand all the way.
Going small again worked out great for MU. When we first did it, it seemed that ND could just shoot and rebound until they made one, but slowly and surely we wore them out. Great strategy that takes a little gumption to stick with when it doesn't start out successfully.
the in-game coaching moves were the story of the game, imho.
Buzz outfoxed Brey -- gutsy stuff

Your absolutely right, I forgot how well it worked against the Grinch and the boys from Wiscy.
The four guard lineup was used for more than the last 8 minutes of second half, more like 15 to 16 minutes. Acker had 22 minutes of playing time, all in the face of McAlarney. I hope this second half lineup continues its efforts, it has won two ball games for us. Don't know if it can continue, but exciting to watch.

Acker looked like he was channeling old school Cubillan. Most of the second half it looked like their jerseys were stuck together.
I did like some of Buzz's in game decisions, however one thing that drove me nuts was us settling for all those 3's.
With a much more athletic team then ND, we should've be driving the ball down the lane and cutting at a much greater frequency.
I must've yelled "Cut to the hoop" a dozen times last night.

Ha, i kept screaming "attack the paint."
I thought Buzz's use, or I should say non use of time outs in the second half was huge, everytime I expected him to use one when ND tie it up or take the lead he wouldn't.
But then I realized he should not, they were not making mistakes, they were not turning it over, (I believe the last MU turnover came with about 17:30 left in the game) some bad shot selections, but the guys know when they take a dumb shot. And ND was tired, they do not let Luke sit down so why should we use time outs to let them rest when our guys are fine and you are just gonna let ND and their fans puff up there chests for a minute or two.
I agree with your assessment of the use of time outs also. I noticed it to and came to the realization that the team was in a groove even if every shot was not falling, they were not making big mistakes. Marquette did a great job at shutting up the fans by coming down and scoring on the other end. How may times did I hear the announcer say that the crowd was silenced after we would score. I swear it happend on about three consecutive possesions. Great nonuse of timeouts.

The TV timeouts worked out. The no timeouts thing works now because we have a TON of vets. Next year, I think we will not have enough time outs.
Also, lets try and remember these moments if some of these decisions result in a loss. I want us to win out the rest of the way but a loss is going to happen.

Acker was absolutely harassing him. It was awesome to watch. McAlarney couldn't hardly breath without Mo's permission. Mo definitely earned some respect in my book last night.

Right, but McNeal's decision to take a 3 probably wasn't Buzz's. I did like the fact that we seemed to attack the interior of the zone immediately after the TV timeouts. It was after one of them in the 2nd half where we went right to Lazar in the lane and he converted the open jumper.
Actually, now that I think of it, I think Buzz did this in the 1st half and had Wes flash to the high post where he hit an open jumper. Man, Wes and Zar were eating that 3-2 zone up.

I loved all the Irish fans next to me yelling "foul". I just wanted to say to them.."That's not a foul, you guys are just too slow and unathletic to get around anyone"
Oh, and this is the Big East not the 8th grade girls rec league. (MU B you know what i"m talking about)

Mo was so tight on McAlarney, I think McAlarney was actually breathing Mo's exhales and the carbon dioxide was wearing him down - lol. Great great job by Mo!
