Title: Ugh; Ugh; Ugh
Post by: willie warrior on January 24, 2009, 03:12:27 PM
We should have won this game by 25. DePaul is a terrible team. There was nothing positive to take from this game.
Poor Ft shooting
Poor defense
Poor coaching
Poor energy
Williams better get these guys practicing FT's, and pretty much everything else related to BB.

Offensively we looked ifine in the first half. Dom's distribution was phenomenal. Second half we looked awful; they took away our looks for three and Lazar didn't get the ball nearly enough. Jerel still drives you nuts sometimes with his I'm-taking-this-shot-no-matter-what mentality, especially on the break, and DJ's shooting in the second half was abysmal. Hopefully they got this out of their system before heading to ND.

DePaul actually made a lot of 3s.

That's what kept them in the game.

I love these posts.  Are you joking?  MU is 6-0 in the BEAST, they had an off game and won, and you're suggestion is to practice free throws and everything else?  I think MU should just hire you.  You'd probably have us undefeated in conference play :)

It always looks ugly when the shots are not falling.  Other than a few ill advised shots early in the second half I thought our shot selection was decent.  Yes Dom was 3-9 from the free throw line and anytime he has a ton of free throws our free throw percentage looks bad.  He is just not a good free throw shooter.  It was a good first half and a not so good second half but a win is a win.

It was indeed an ugly game, but there were some good things.   James had 9 assists in the first half.  Lazar had 17 rebounds.  Koshwal and Tucker were held in check.

MU had played one game in nearly two weeks.  They had an off game and that is going to happen from time to time.

MU won, quit bitching.

This is pretty accurate, especially about Jerel's penchant for making bad decisions on break aways.  Generally, we looked lethargic in the 2nd half and, by the its end, exhausted.  With the lack of depth, teams, like Louisville, that press and push could tire us out.

I didn't see an exhausted team.  I saw a team that was out of synch and played down to its opponent.

We survived the proverbial trap game.   We played un-inspired ball, doing just enough to win.   But we didn't lose.   The bad news is the started had to play too many minutes.    But maybe the 1 game in 13 days left them out of sync and they will come out firing Monday.   Here's hoping.....

Relax. The game was never, ever in doubt.

Ugh...CHILL OUT.  We won the game, we were clearly looking to ND on Monday, we were destroying them  in the first half, and just didn't hit MANY open looks in the 2nd, that would have had us win by Pakuni's PRECIOUS 25 pts...seriously, these posts are ridiculous.  We won the game, period.
Of course, tomorrow, we have some stuff to practice and talk about, but I am fine with the W.  I think it is half retarded we've got people actually complaining we only won by 9...get a grip.  Keep in mind, we can afford to play badly against DePaul...I'd rather we play poorly today in the 2nd half than on Monday.

Absolutely right.   DEP would get it to 8 or 10 and MU would go right back to 12 and more boredom would ensue.   MU scored in the second half when it needed to.  Kept DEP from getting that significant run.  DEP absolutely knew they could not get any closer.

Good teams know how to keep significant runs from lesser opponents from happening.

+1

I think many of the posters on this board are new to big time basketball.  Style points are so over-rated.

As said above, DePaul hit a lot of 3's today, and I think they were jsut a 28% 3 point shooting team.  I don;t know what their percent was for the game but first half they were 6 of 11.  So, we did not defend the 3 today, but maybe that was part of the game plan since they were so bad at it.

DJ's passing was phenom.  Unreal - beautiful.  So there were some positives, and I hope we learn from each of these games.  I think Dayton did us a favor, because we learned a lot from that outing.

GO MARQUETTE!  Wins are nice.....  :)

I tend to think that a W is something positive we can take from this game...

+17 in honor of the number of rebounds for Lazar Hayward today!

That was easily the most comfortable I've ever been watching an MU game this year from a "will they win?" perspective. It was never in doubt. At all. They played great in the first half and in the second looked like a bored team that was just playing around and losing focus. It happens. It's a long season.

Personally, I'm happy ND lost today. They've lost three in a row and are on the ropes and we can stick a knife in a team that's second guessing themselves right now. Plus, they'll be more tired than we are based on today's sluggish second half performance.
