"Pearl Jam at first was known as Mookie Blaylock, in honor of the NBA player the band members admired. The band named its debut album "Ten," Blaylock's jersey number."
I'm a big Pearl Jam fan and while I knew that they were originally called Mookie Blaylock, I didn't know they named Ten after his jersey number!
I was a freshman in 91 when Pearl Jam played the University Theater at MU. It was easy getting the tickets because no one knew who they were. Great show.
I unfortunately didn't land at MU until the following year but I have a bootleg of that show and listening to Eddie describe the seats as coral for stage divers is pretty entertaining.
I wrestled for a drumstick for about thirty minutes. And won thankfully.
Man, if there's anyway to get a copy of that bootleg, i'd be forever greatful.
