Title: New Bracketology
Post by: Kramerica on January 19, 2009, 12:32:17 PM
The new bracketology on ESPN has Marquette as a 3 seed.  Also 6 BEast teams have a 3 seed or higher, including UConn and Pitt as 1 seeds.  It also has Louisville as a 2 seed.

Wow. That second round UK matchup is deadly.

Meeks vs. McNeal

If that draw were the real deal, sign me up for that draw.  I'd really like our chances in this scenario.

That would also bring about the Buzz vs. Gillespie matchup. We all know how the NCAA and ESPN loves stories like that. That would make me a little nervous, being his first NCAA tourney and all, although he might have gotten it a little out of the way facing him last year.

Kentucky would be a bad match up for us.  They had pg issues at the beginning of the year but are getting better there.  Patrick Patterson would be a tough match up for us inside.

Plus I really don't want to play UK again.

Other thoughts after looking at this are that the depth is great this year.  It is hard to find favorable match ups in the second round even with a high 3 seed.

Well I think what is most important about this is that we're moving up.  The report also says that we have a 60% chance of staying in the top 4 in seeding.  If we get a top 4 seed it only increases a chance that we'll get a first round somewhere in the midwest (Minneapolis, Dayton or KC) which will be good for getting a large amount of MU fans there.  Plus there is a chance we could get a good regional site as well (Indianapolis).  I think if we get a good path that will help a lot in increasing our chances.  It helped a lot in '03.  Those regional rounds in Minneapolis were almost home games for us.

Just like the Crean/Izzo matchup from a couple years ago...not a scenario I'd like to see repeated!

by far the most important thing in that scenario would be playing in minneapolis. that would be huge.

I'll sign up for that.

No doubt. Easy trip up to Minny as well. Reasonable drive or get a Southwest flight out of Midway for cheap.

UK would be tough, but out of all the 1 and 2 seeds, Marquette matches up the best against Duke and Michigan State, so I would take that bracket any day as the easiest path to the Final Four.  We dodge the good big guys at Oklahoma and UConn and UNC.

Only a January bracketology, but it is also nice to see MARQUETTE in all caps showing that we are the Big East winners given our conference record right now.
