I know, the subject is redundant...
Business brings me to lovely Columbus, Ohio today (and you probably thought this was going to be a post about Badger fans). I was just eating dinner and the Ohio State/Indiana game came on. I actually heard all of these statements from a guy sitting 6 feet away from me at the bar:
"This is a great conference this year. They're all good."
"I think we'll get 7 teams in the tournament."
"I think this is the deepest conference in the country, and that includes the ACC and the Big East. There's just no week teams...except Indiana." (To his credit, the older (and obviously wiser) gentleman with him said, "the Big East is pretty strong.")
"There's no easy road wins in this conference. Everyone is good. It's going to be tough to win on the road."
Needless to say, I couldn't wait to get back to my hotel to let all of you know that Badger fans aren't the only idiot fans in the Big Ten. I guess he's right about the difficulty getting road wins -- since so many of the teams suck, they are going to have a hard time winning on the road.
By the way, this is the first time I've seen Indiana play this year. Oh my goodness, they suck. (Moderators: please lock/delete this thread if anyone mentions...well, you know.)
The Big Ten is pretty good this year, definitely top 4. Some of the ratings systems have them ahead of the Big East, others do not. Depends on which rating system you use.
I don't think they'll get 7, more likely 6. I think their problem this year will be a lot of teams with mid to low seeds, 6 or lower, while the Big East could get 5 seeds at 5 or higher.
Iowa is terrible
Northwestern is meh
Penn State= whatever
I will say watching today's game I think Crean is going to own Thad Motta in the future. I think Crean will own a lot of Big Ten coaches in the future, including Bo Ryan.
I hate the Big Ten as much as any of us but they have something to say. Maybe our bottom teams are better than their bottom teams but MN beat Louisville, OSU beat ND and Michigan beat Duke. The argument is there.
I don't know about Matta "being owned" by TC.
He's been a solid coach throughout his career.
Off-topic: This OSU-IU game is a snorer. But somebody's gotta tell Lavin to stop talking about his pouch!
Any team with Tom Terrific as its coach will suck. He's still running that same old offense with the point guard running east and west deep into shotclock. If he ever recruits a big, smart money says he won't know what to do with him.
See your problem is that your in Columbus...crazy crazy crazy big ten central. I have lived here for 10 years...buckeye fans are nuts. They really will say anything to boost their ego. My only escape is that they really only care about football (and yes wearing scarlet and grey is good for business during the fall...but all winter I have to explain that I am NOT wearing Maze and Blue)

Except that head to head, the Big East has won 5 of the eight games played against each other.
WVU beta OSU by 30, MU beat Wisconsin, UCONN beat Wisconsin, etc, etc.

Yes, MU definitely "sucked" the last 9 years. How much history you going to re-write?

I think they said about Matta yesterday that he hasnt had a season in his career where he hasnt won at least 20 games... pretty good stuff.
away from teh subject, but still relevant to this game. Did anyone hear Lavin and, was it musberger (sp?) talking about Pac Man Jones last night when lavin was talking about hootin with the owls? They had some great off handed comments about Mr. Jones. they also started to rag a little bit on someone else but i cant remember who. Anyone else hear that. (sorry for maybe hijacking the thread)
***I did hear that. I think it was something Lavin said he learned from an old school coach. The quote was like, "If you want to soar with the Eagles, you can't be hooting with the Owls." I think they were talking about nothing good happening after 10pm.*** End of detour.
I am not really surprised at the conversation you overheard. There are fans like that for every conference. I am sure there are a lot of people that would say Big East fans are delusional for thinking their conference is tougher than the ACC and vice versa. It's just too bad we can't get all these teams together at the end of the year to get it all sorted out. ;)

Yeah, thanks for that. however, my question wasnt what Lavin was talking about, but rather on who else they mentioned that had been hooting it up with the owls. (it was nothing good happens after 12)/
Although every conference does it... Big Ten is bad, for both basketball and more often football
How many times will the BCS put Big Ten teams in to just get man-handled... this year was Penn St and Ohio St(although they weren't man-handled)... last year Illinois and Ohio St.... stop putting two teams from the Big Ten in the BCS, just awful.
Those fans must have loved watching that Minnesota/Iowa shootout. (50-38?) "Yeah, come March, I can see both those teams getting high seeds in the tourney. Pitt hasn't seen defense like these guys play"......blahbityblahbityblah
