We were lucky to be at home today. We play that game at Morgantown and don't get a couple of those favorable whistles and this might have been a loss.
Jimmy Butler may be a huge contributor the second half of the season, which means Cubes and Acker might be picking splinters out of their behinds.
I still cringe when Dom goes up for a shot, but he has played terrific defense all season and he hit some very big shots today.
Jerel is Jerel. He'll make you scratch your head with some terrible decisions, then come back and drill a huge 3-pointer. Everytime I screamed at him today, he shut me up with a play 20 seconds later.

My favorite is DJ chucking up a 3 when he may have been wise to use more clock beforehand ;) it's all good, love his steals today!
Buzz says DJ is the best defender he's ever coached.
uh, wade, just pointing out that we had a 27-10 edge in free throws, which is kinda one-sided.

Agree, the free throws were one-sided, though the total fouls (22 for WVU to 13 for MU) weren't quite as lopsided. Thanks the miracle that is DVR technology, I re-watched some of the close calls that went against WVU, and especially Butler. By and large, the officials had it right. May have been some instances where they could have "let them play," but the vast majority weren't phantom calls.

Fair enough. I'm just saying, it was a home game and we got the calls. What's the point? We won by 22. Also, we knew we were going to have the free throw advantage. Regardless of where it was played, somebody had a stat on the forum before the game that said they gave up the 8th most free throws or something in the nation, and we go to the line the 4th most in the nation. Not sure the numbers are right, but we knew we'd have the foul shooting advantage no matter where the game was played. Ever since we've learned to play defense with our feet and not our arms we've had far fewer fouls. A 22 point win at home usually does not equate to a lose on the road.
That was not your ordinary 22-point win. We were down four in the second half and only up two with 8:30 to go. I'm not saying they were phantom calls on W.Va., I'm pointing out that if we don't get those calls (and the officating at both ends was awful) this could have easily been a loss.
Agreed that we probably got the home edge in fouls, but it was sort of bitterly funny to me that after the WVU player threw the elbow at DJ and the officials decided to "clamp down" on the physical play, they did so by calling fouls on Marquette on the following offensive and defensive possessions ?-(
Was ridiculous some of the stuff they let go - at one point I think there were three guys laying on the floor after one possession and four more about 10 seconds later on the other end of the court, with nary a whistle in sight.
Regarfing the fouls. Huggy has only been there two years and he has already fully converted this team. Some things never change. WVU is a very good defensive team, they challenge everything. However, they do hack A LOT. Especially when someone has the ball in the lane.
He has taught them exactly what he used to do at Cincy. Watch when a WVU player goes to contest a shot. His leading hand may or may not foul but his off hand is usually poking the guy in the stomach, pushing him, or pulling down on his shorts.
He may not bring in the thugs he did at Sin-cy, but they style of play is almost fully converted to those ole' Cincy squads.

I was thinking the exact same thing watching Ruoff constantly push off and throw elbows on DJ. There was one play in the 2nd half where Ruoff had the ball baseline left against McNeal, and as Ruoff began his move he threw his off hand in the direction of Jerel's groin. Jerel ended up getting called for a foul.
Huggy has nothing to copmplain about as his guys got the benefit of a ton of non-calls. I thought I was watching a rubgy match at the BC.
Typical Huggybear team. Very aggressive and physical. Usually his teams foul at least twice as many times then the number that actually get called. In past years our teams were soft and didn't take it to the hole. Not this time. Huggy will have his hands full with MU if we continue to push the ball into the paint in future years as his teams foul a lot. He can dish it but can't take it when it is returned.

Or... WVU is one of the worst teams in the country at sending opponents to the FT line, and we're one of the best teams in the country at getting to the FT line.
Home court helps, but it's still a strength against a weakness.
agreed, Henry, just saying the fourth and fifth fouls on Taylor changed the game

And Wes was playing with 4 for a long stretch...difference is, we had the studs to step up and take it home, while WVU sat on their hands when Butler went out. Thuggies guys elbowed and pulled DJ down the court all day. We went belly to belly with them in the 2nd half and gutted this game out--taking it right at them on both ends. The 2nd half team defensive effort was the best I have seen in a long time--only gave 22 points to a team much taller than us. I cannot even describe the game DJ had on D. The dude was all over the place. And, I mean we took it right at them--this was Warrior basketball.
btw, the last two home games, the alums have been outstanding. With the snow, hard for the Chi fans to make it up. We took the train up, and it was about 90% MU fans.

Uhh, 20 seconds after he careleesly turned the ball over at midcourt he was doing a blind 360 in the lane and threw the ball away for another layup. He was terrible today I dont care if he scored 46!!
Stop with the hyperbole Hayward. Yeah his TO ratio sucked but the kid still shot 48% in 19 shots and had 7 boards. He was not terrible his day balanced out because of his turnovers. He did some very good things today too.
