Title: Updated Power Rankings
Post by: Dish on January 08, 2009, 09:37:45 PM
I know this info isn't everyone's cup of tea, so I try not to post it too often. With a few games into conference play, here's an update on the Big East power ratings, used to determine gambling lines. If you're trying to figure the line, add in three-five points for home court and a point or two for "name" teams that get heavy play (Duke, Carolina, etc.).

I'd expect MU will be about a 2 pt favorite over WVU on Saturday (give or take a half point).

Team       Current     Last    HI    LOW

Pitt             95         94      95     88
UConn         91         92      93     91
'Ville            89         91      92     89
G'Town        89         89      89     84
ND              88         89      90     88
WVU           88         87       88     84
MU             86         86       88     86
Syr             86         86       86     85
Nova           85         85       88     85
Prov            83         82       84     82

Thanks for these.  I always find this interesting as it shows where a lot of the money is going, and that tells you something.  As a bet, the numbers that intrigue me are 'Cuse at 86 the the 'Ville at 89.  Looeyvile just seems like a mess right now and the Orange are playing pretty darn good.  Sunday Jan 25th they play in New York, and according to these numbers 'Cuse will be barely favored.  You have to like Syracuse minus 2 points or less in that matchup.

The reports of Louisville's demise have been greatly exaggerated.  Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised to see them steamroll Villanova this weekend... on the road.

Agreed.  They did this last year as well.  They're too talented to play this way throughout the season, with too good of a coach.  By the end of the year, I hate to say it, but I think they'll be playing like a top 10-15 team.
