heading to HK and Southern mainland China next week for business. anyone know of a good place to watch games there...for breakfast?
I don't live in Hong Kong, but having been there a few times, best place you might have some luck is Dan Ryan's Chicago Grill. By China standards, it's one of the better places for American food, and when you're there you almost can't believe you're not in Chicago.
Best location is in the Pacific Place Mall. It's next to the main Marriott in Hong Kong (not sure where you're staying, but this is a very nice place and where I typically luck out in staying). The Conrad (also very nice hotel) is also near by.
I haven't been in about four years, but if I remember correctly, Dan Ryan's does open for breakfast, at least on weekends.

i wanted to get some answers prior to arriving there. you never know what could happen if i ask for the golden eagles.
mugoose - I lived in HK for 4 years. The best place for games would be the American Club at Stock Exchange Square. A good back-up would be the China Club. You need to be a member but your company or a client may have one so ask for them to give you a day pass.
I have to disagree about Dan Ryan's - the food is pretty mediocre and it's not the best venue for sports. There is one at Pacific Place and one in Tsim Tsa Tsui and neither ever served up a proper meal.

I have had several 2-week long trips to mainland China & Hong Kong (HK was at the bookends of the trip). My company's factory was a 1 hr train ride outside Hong Kong. Except for the air polution (story in itself), mainland China was fine, the hotels were very good with a western breakfast, but all I can tell you is that at the end of the two weeks I couldn't wait to get to Hong Kong to spend a night back in the "West." Hong Kong is not China and China is not Hong Kong. Be prepared to do some shopping in mainland China and Hong Kong as things are so cheap. In Hong Kong, I used to like to go PJ Murphy's Irish Pub on Nathan Road (also called The Golden Mile) in Tsim Sha Tsui and then head to the Temple Street Night Market for shopping of Chinese knock-offs. PJ Murphy's always had the ESPN of Asia (I think it's called Star Sports?) on the big screen. Just my 2-cents.

How long do you plan on being there? I should be there the first couple weeks of February. From past experience, it is rather difficult to get any college hoops, let alone MU games.
Star Sports is great for Footie, Rugby, and Happy Valley Horse Racing but lame on US sports. I think the best bet for ESPN is the American Club where it is guaranteed
Good call by MU Fan in Connecticut about PJ Murphy's. Quality place. I've had a few Kilkenny pints there over the years. Also completely 100% accurate about Hong Kong not being China and vice versa.
If you are ready for Western food, specifically Italian, I can't remember the name of the place, but there is a near exact carbon copy ripoff of Maggianos there (and in Singapore and Taiwan too). I think it was Amonori's or something similar to that (I'm sure someone on here knows). The menu, the decor, the food is nearly the exact same as you'd find at Maggianos here in the US. It was a god send when I found it.
If it's Hong Kong and you want Italian there is no where else but Va Bene in Lan Kwai Fong. The maitre'd is Pino Piano and he runs a very fine establishment. It is nothing like any chain - it is a true Tuscan restaurant. We had standing reservations there every Friday night at 2100. After a week in the mainland this was a very welcome refuge.
I was at PJ Murphy's, decent place with good pints but agree it was hard to see any U.S. sports anywhere. At least it was for me.
If you're looking for night life in HK you need to make Lan Kwai Fong your first if not only stop. Great dining and world class bars. I didn't spend much time on the Kowloon side, certainly not for entertainment. I know Murphy's, Blacksmith Arms, Rick's, etc... are all standard pubs - do yourself a favor and check out Lan Kwai Fong/D'Aguilar Street.
