A nice win against a tough team at a challenging venue.
Any win against UCONN, which had a 31-game home winning streak until tonight, is like any win against Duke, UNC, Indiana, etc. It should be enjoyed for a while without analysis or critique.
Our free-throw and three-point shooting are -- and will likely remain -- weak and unreliable. Even so, we have beaten the University of Connecticut in Storrs. This win shows what can happen when at least one big man makes a significant contribution.
It is a good night for the Marquette family. No more need be said.
Yes a good night. Luckily the media will probably be kind to us for this win. As I've gone over it, a few ways to look at it.
1) Marquette beat a top 25 team, coached by a hall-of-famer on the road.
2) Marquette played a semi-erratic game tonight, but UConn was even more erratic. Regardless, Marquette's front court outplayed a couple NBA caliber players.
3) Marquette shot horribly against a young team and eeked out a win.
4) Tom Crean can't recruit, can't coach, and doesn't deserve to be paid so much. Oh wait. This one was only after the Syracuse loss. :P
As I mentioned before, I think Crean just needs to keep DJ playing within his bounds, and Marquette will do fine this year. I'm glad we faced UConn before they got more experience together. They'll be dangerous late in the year.
Love the "Marquette ends UConn's 31-game home winning streak" headline ;D
Here's to beating UConn in the conference tourney championship game... and again in the NCAA finals ;D
in Connecticut - how you like them apples
