Title: UNLV tops Ville
Post by: Wareagle on December 31, 2008, 07:11:04 PM
Wow, UNLV kept running a screen at the top of the key, and Lville kept switching, allowing UNLV's guards to blow by Samardo Samuels.  Running Rebels win by one at Freedom Hall.

And ESPN showed that piece of crap Rick Pitino run out of the gym as soon as the clock hit zero.  He didn't even shake hands with the UNLV players or coach.

no huge pitino fan here but he shook hands and walked off the court, no running or even a jog involved.

Does anyone remember Tom Crean pulling that crap when Louisville killed MU at the BC last year? I have no respect for coaches who do that. Show some class for cripe sakes.

Lon Kruger is a good coach.  His team was well prepared without their best player and held Louisville to 55 points.  Wow. Don't know why Pitino did that, strange.

On another note, ND at Depaul.... Game should be in the 90s for both teams. Kyle McAlarney is insane. Some of his threes are in 25 feet range.

Yes Kruger is a good coach. Pitino is trying to make a transition from a high post offense to a low post offense. The low post worked against cupcakes where Samuels could physically dominate his couterpart, but against the better teams Samuels has had drouble clearing his shot and also has had trouble with the double team from the blindside.

The key to Ville last year was Padgett's ability to run the offense from the high post-----though Samuels has better physical skills he doesn't have Padgett's court awareness or passing skills.

All this results in Ville relying too much on jump shooting and not getting enough finishes around the hoop.

louisville should be dropped out of the top 25--they already have 3 losses. But Pitino's overrated rep will keep them in there.

I don't want to start this process crap again and I'm cool with giving Buzz a chance but I'm surprised we didn't give Kruger a call this past off season.   He seems like a Oneill-esque greedy bastard but I'll be darned if he can't coach.  Wonder how hard it would be to get him back into big time college basketball.   I'd imagine you can get comfortable in the Nevada/vegas area.

Absolutely right, Murff. Ville played an incredibly dumb game, forcing up jumpers they had little chance of hitting. Samuels is a beast, though.
Nice to see you back. Happy New Year to you and your family.
