Title: Have we become THAT fanbase?
Post by: MUfan12 on December 17, 2008, 09:49:07 AM
You know, "the impossible to please, entitled to only perfection, and when we don't get it become negative as hell because of it" fanbase?

Some of what I'm reading is unbelievable. These are still STUDENT ATHLETES. They're busting their asses and representing MU well every night.

Do they have shortcomings? Absolutely. But to call our own guys useless or a waste of space or a scholarship is really, really harsh.

I *hope* it's just a vocal minority. And I'm pretty sure they're fairly new fans and didn't have to sit through Bart Miller as a starting PG and John Polonowski winning a dunk contest.

It's just tiring to come on here after a loss and see these "fans" coming out of the woodwork.

+1

And let's add Brian Wardle scoring all *17* of our first half points to that list.

We've come a long, long way.

+1  I think it is mostly a vocal minority.  The harshest of posters just show up here only after a loss and flame the team.  The team played really hard last night and came up short.

And dude, no reason to throw John Polonowski under the bus, guy was a stud.

we have come a long way, but when you have the players that we do (three amigos- i am not going to comment on any of our recruits) you expect better. While I agree that to call a student athlete a waste or to hound him (go back to the student section thread a couple of weeks ago) is harsh and wrong but as a fan base we are allowed to be critical. Let's just stay away from their jugular's, unless Derrick Caracter is on the floor.

Ya, but if you want to move up, you have to look up, not down.

That said, I agree that individual players should not be judged too harshly this year and maybe next. The struggles of certain players are due in large part to a change of coaching which has brought a new system that they were not recruited for. Some players can adapt and thrive, but others will struggle.

It is understandable for fans to be frustrated, but you are right, we need to keep perspective. I don't see any players sherking out there. Everyone works hard all the time.

I haven't read many of the posts you'ver referred to, but in speaking with fellow MU alums we've come to the same understanding - the big 4 come ready to play every game and play with everything they have.  They don't always play great, but its not a lack of effort.  They just have so much to overcome b/c of the recruiting woes - Crean was not just unable to recruit a big guy, he was unable to recruit another legitimate player outside of Hayward the past few years.

This year, let's not be harsh on Wes, McNeal, DJ or Hayward or Buzz, they're all giving everything they have.  They just have a lot to overcome.
