If anyone knows that kid who was on the jumboTron as a badger fan until the second half when he blossomed into an MU fan, tell him that that was awesome. the bucky fans next to me, who were cheering everytime he was on teh big screen, were shocked when he turned out to be from MU.
I loved it.
I'm pretty sure that kid is an athletic department plant.
cynical much?

Thought the same thing.
He was an athletic department plant. They had that planned weeks ago.
I don't know if any of the others saw, but at half time the they had the kid run around the student section to get the students worked up (which didn't work at all). He came out of the tunnel next to 106 and security stopped him right away and he had to show his MU stuff and say he was with the athletic department before they would let him do it. I would say it was pretty dumb and lame. I know most of my friends and I knew what was going on when they kept showing him on the jumbotron and you could see the gold under the red.
well damnit, i feel used.
i take it back, that kid just makes me angry now.
I didnt see that halftime stuff as i was walking around seeing old friends who came up from chicago for the game. Had i have seen the halftime ploys then maybe i would have thought that was a plant myself.
My group in section 205 loved it. I was getting more annoyed everytime they gave him face time. I think he even ripped off the ugly Bucky shirt about the time MU went on its second half run to take over the game. Even two mildly arrogant Badger fans next to us thought it was a great gag.
I still thought it was funny. I also enjoyed the dancing ref a year or so ago so obviously I'm easily entertained.
even if it was a gimmick, it was still funny. the rest of the arena other than the "ulitmate fans" in section 106 didn't know it was fake.
reminds me of the panda at the depaul road game a couple years ago. he was in the student section and the depaul kids thought he was great till he revealed his marquette shirt. poor billy, i couldn't believe he got out of there with his tail.

He was even the DePaul fan of the Game on the Big Screen.
Good gravy...people actually believed that was real? That is one of the oldest gags in sports.

so if a random kid thought of it and did it then you would be happy, but if that kid happens to work for the athletic department plans it and does it then you are upset? Isn't a gag a gag? So, he needed clearence to do something. Funny is funny.
If i am not mistaken, they did this at the last Madison game at the BC....Maybe not Madison, but def. another MU game...

Is it older than the phrase good gravy?

Yes because a kid, taking the initiative on his own to sit in the student section, endure the insults hurled at him, get on the jumbotron and then reveal his true colors is much more cool than it being the idea of the athletic department.
Afterall, a bank robbery is more interesting when the bank doesnt plan it.

I remember it being done before as well. I feel like it was the last UW game too, but I'm not sure.

But if the athletic department didn't know about it, what are the odds he would get placed on the screen long enough to rip off the shirt if at all. You could go in wearing red planning to rip it off and never make it on the camera.

All the more reason its impressive.
it is planned for a game or so every year or so...
happened last season.. maybe a louisviller??
video crew knows where, who and when the plant should be seen.
It was definately done at the last MU-UW game at the BC. I don't remember last year...if it was against Louisville then i was too depressed by us getting our a$$es handed to us to notice.
even if the athletic dept did not plant him he would not be hurled insults at him. think back to college he would have been there with buddies and most of the people around him might have known him and word would have passed quickly. MU is not ohio state. great gag!! i did not know it was a plant but was suspicios as he was laughing and having fun with his neighbors definitely not in hostile territory. it worked great on television as they showed him take the shirt off the only problem was it seemed to perplex the announcers, considering it was lou cannelis that is easily done...he is terrible how does he keep a job?
