Good second half adjustments by Buzz and MU. Even though MU was down to start the half, they completely controlled the pace and tempo/style. In some cases when a team catches up and ties a game, they can never get over the hump. Because of the way MU was playing, it seemed the opposite here. Once MU got up, I never thought for a second Wisco would catch up. Their offense just is not capable of overcoming an athletic team like MU down 7 with 2 mins to go.
-Zone defense was quite active, and gave Wisconsin some fits (to their credit, they did hit some outside shots).
-Even though the final score looks "Wisconsin like", MU's offensive tempo and free flow offense was the difference. Wisco just does not have the athletes to compete on the wings with a team like MU, and MU exploited this. MU's player control fouls and missed five footers kept this from being a double digit win.
-Wisco will come out and surprise and upset someone, but they're a middle of the road Big 11 team (Ohio St, Mich St, Purdue, even Illinois/Michigan/Minn will give Wisco fits). They'll sneak into the tournament, but if they play someone athletic come March, they're one and done.

Agreed. I always think Bo's system makes average players good and great players good resulting in good teams, but he'll never have a great team. Eventually they run in to a fundamentally sound athletic team and the game is over before it starts because they don't have the players to compete. Many prominent WI alums are very frustrated with his recruiting which they claim is getting worse and worse every year. Will be interesting to see how it plays out...I can't believe they could hire a coach that would get them more wins.

I don't know I agree with this statement. I understand where you are coming from... that great players can be lost in his system. However, that does not mean they could not have a great team. That 2006 team was pretty darn good. Maybe even great. I don't know why a great player would ever play for him, as they can get lost as you stated. But, with the right personnel, and some lucky recruiting (a couple of years of good Wisconsin kids that didn't want to play for MU), UW could have a great team with Bo.
Ohhh Bo when will you learn...

So if they are a middle of the road big 11 team, does that mean we suck because we ony beat them by 3 at home?
I personally hope they have a great year so it makes our win look that much better.
no i dont think that means we suck...we are who we are but consider if you throw out the first 5 minutes and the last minute we beat them by 19 points over the other 33-34 minutes. Buzz stated he was dissapointed and concerned about the first 5 minutes. should be corrected as the season and players mature as a unit.

I guess I would define a great team by its post-season success. I'm obviously bias, but I'm not willing to give any Big Ten team credit for what they do in conference. I'm not sure there are many Wisconsin kids that have a final four impact to their game, and if they do, they won't be going to UW. I think Bo is even having a hard time making his case to big men after Butch couldn't even get drafted. Wisconsin is a tough sell to a talented and athletic recruit.
After watching the replay of the game tonight, one thing that worries me is the amount of open looks Wisconsin got on 3-pointers. At least 12 times I'd say UW shot a three with no one within 10 feet of them. Luckily they missed more than they made.

IMO, Mich St., Ohio St, and Purdue are all better than Wisco. Indiana will obviously finish last in the conference. The middle of the conference is much better than it has been in the recent past. Minny, Illinois, Michigan, and dare I say Northwestern are all much better than expected.
Big 11 isn't as solid as the Big East, ACC, Big 12, or Pac 10, but it's not an insult to say Wisco will finish outside the top 3 (middle of the pack) in the Big 11.
Beating your most heated rival (fringe top 25 team) by three doesn't say we suck.
The only thing I will ever complain about after a win against UW is a bad hangover.
There is certainly some analysis that can be done with the game... but when it comes to rivalries, just take the win and get out.

Our help side defense gets sucked into the lane when the ball is on the opposite side of the court. This allows for a quick ball rotation or skip pass to an open players in the corner or on the wing. McNeal the past few games has left his man WIDE open as he has slid into the lane to try and help with penetration. This would be the one thing that I would like to see change. We need to have help d in the lane due to our lack of size but we can't completely forget about the open player waiting for a dish to jack up an open 3.

I hate the Badgers so much that I can't possibly cheer for them in any situation (although I will take pleasure anytime Indiana gets beat down), but it's one of those things that if they do well, so be it, because it will only help our RPI. As for the Big 11, I wouldn't be surprised if Bo has that team near the top again, because that conference stinks. Exclude Ohio St. and Michigan which have both pulled off surprising victories over ranked teams, and that conference is terribly overrated - especially Purdue and Michigan St which have both lost to the only good teams they have played. Marquette's win wasn't only huge for obvious reasons but also because the Big 10 was having waaaay too good of a day with Ohio St's win over ND (the Irish are good for nothing) and Michigan's win over Duke. Also, anyone see that DePaul score on Saturday? Yikes.

Anyone notice the ESPN captions? They all list the loser as "Wisconsin Madison". Is that how far they have fallen already under Bo? Are they on the level of Wisconsin-Milwaukee now? The only thing missing is the hyphen! ;D

I noticed that as well. Rather enjoyed it.
