Title: MUSCOOP withdrawal!
Post by: 77fan88warrior on November 30, 2008, 11:25:58 PM
At work I get my internet service through a company I rent office space from and they have blocked message boards. This is causing me to get twitchy since the best info. source for my sports fix  is MUSCOOP!

Does anyone have any suggestions before I pay up for a second line?

I have DSL service at home with AT+T if that helps.

I'm with you, man.

I can't get it at school...IF I use the school's computers. ;)

I hope you find a way...maybe your own laptop that can utilize a nearby WIFI link!

It's working today for some reason and I hadn't even started whining.

Sometimes I can get on MUScoop, but only if I'm really lucky.

Otherwise, the district's filters pick up on a word or words and blocks this site - almost 98% of the time!

Try using a public open proxy for sites that won't load.  (Search google, learn how.)

Also .. some places block sites by screwing with the DNS .. you can often simply replace their DNS server IP with another one (4.2.2.2 is the one I often use.)

Or .. learn how to open an SSH tunnel to your dd-wrt firmware'd router .. then use PuTTY to send all web traffic to your router first, then out to the internet.

Lots of ways!

Not sure if this will work for you, but its worth a try:

try making the address a secure connection by adding in an "s" in the url.

https://www.muscoop.com instead of http://www.muscoop.com

My work blocks sites like gmail and facebook, but adding that "s" unblocks them.

Another workaround is to use the RSS feed for Hangin' at the Al...

http://www.muscoop.com/index.php?type=rss;action=.xml;limit=20;board=2;sa=news

Even if you can't access it directly, you can plug it into the google rss reader (or any site that will aggregate RSS feeds) for some indirection.

http://www.google.com/reader

This won't allow you to post, but at least you can stay up to date!

Sorry - that doesn't work, we don't have a "secure" site (like - used for credit card processing) :(

Lots of ways maybe, but not a darn one I can understand!!!   :o  Fortunately, I do not have the problems faced by 77fan.

Similar thanks.

But will I lose my job by trying to circumvent their filters? Is it worth it?  ?-(

Well, I guess so since "It's MUScoop! It's MUScoop!"

I won't lose my job since I'm a customer renting space but I would rather not have to pay for another line. I don't want a IPHONE or Bberry since I'm already addicted to the computer.

I can do without any site but SCOOP. :'(
