Title: NIT Bound
Post by: reinko on November 29, 2008, 09:42:17 PM
This is it.  We are exposed.  We are done.  Buzz should be fired, McNeal shouldn't shoot anymore, we have no offense, and no defense.

I love all the random posts from screen names I have never seen after a crappy played game crying about how overrated and how much MU sucks.

Chillax people.  I am all for constructive criticism and discussion especially after a loss.  But to come to MUScoop only after a loss and blast the team is pathetic.

Agreed reinko.   Every year we have a loss like this and posters come out in the masses saying how we won't cut it in the Big East and will be lucky even to make the NIT.

While we did suck last night, if we make our free throws even with our crappy play there's a good chance we win that game.  Yes, it won't be the last time that free throws and bad play cost us but come on people.  A major problem is the injuries on our bench.  Luckily, Fulce and O'Tule will be back soon giving us some more depth.

It's one loss.  Every team has a bad game.  Dayton nearly lost to Auburn the night before.  The same Auburn that lost by 12 to a UNI team we beat by 30.

Please people, step off the ledge!

Agreed...we played a very bad game, and lost.  Guess it's time for the annual "sky is falling" posts.  Not saying we don't have our problems, but I am optimistic.  We're going to get Fulce and Otule back, and we'll be fine.  I still think this is a very good basketball team, we just didn't show it last night.

I think what most people see here is that you can't just pass this off as just an "off night"-----there were very serious fundamental flaws exposed last night like one on one defense and how ridiculous race horse BB is when you don't contol the glass.

BTW, OTule, Fulce are a year away especially with the time they have missed-----did you notice Butler last night against decent competition-----he was lost----he's a year away as well!

I never post here; I just like to read.

But, my favorite thread is the inevitable one started by an established member calling out all of the over-reactors after an ugly loss.  That train's never late!

I was at the game and in my opinion the more talented team won. They were bigger than us, could really jump and were as quick or quicker than we were. Dayton will finish the year ranked and in the NCAA tournament. The game follows last years script, where we won every game we had more talent and lost every game were the other team had more athleticism. The exception would be the loss at Notre Dame. In fact teams like West Virginia, Louisville, Uconn and Syracuse ran right over us last year. We will not win a game against a team that has an athletic power forward. The loss has nothing to do with Buzz, so do not blame him. As good as Hayward is he out of position against true athletic power forwards. Buzz can only do so much with a lack of bigmen. It would have been nice to have a leaper like Mbakee in this game. Also add a leaper like Fulce and the size that Otule could have added and we have a much better team. I have claimed from the beginning that this team will end up being NIT champion, because it is a very good team in a conference that has several teams with more talent and balance which is going to keep us from getting an NCAA bid.

Does this post from two years ago sound familiar to anyone?

Wasn't it exactly right?   ?-( ?-( ?-(

We picked up an 8 seed and put up an ugly, ugly performance on a national stage to end the season.

Were any of your posters at the game, like I was! Pretty sparse crowd, considering Milwaukee is close and big base of alums in Chicago. Dayton outnumbered us. Yes, we did play badly, the refes were crap, but the three
amigos cannot do it by themselves. Will be better when Big men return!

Butler is certainly a year away on defense.  Fulce, if he gets healthy and in shape, will contribute right away.  He has the game to do so ( Murff, he is not your typical JUCO).  If not healthy, why not redshirt him...?  Otule will obviuously develop more over time; but, he can give some needed minutes right away.  His health is less problematic as a broken foot ( no stress fractures or whatever ) is much easier to come back from.

I was at both games this weekend.  The fact that we were outnumbered by Dayton fans was mind boggling...not to mention how much more enthusiastic their fans were.  Sure they were the underdog and it's always a little more exciting pulling off an upset....but their fans were way more into the game from the second the teams came out of the locker room for warm-ups.

Did MU offer any packages for students for this game?  From what I could tell there were very few students there...with the large number of Chicago-area students home for Thanksgiving I would've expected more...but wouldn't blame them at all for not wanting to shell out $45 for a ticket.  Hopefully the AD didn't whiff on this one.  At the Chicago DePaul games there's always a solid, enthusiastic student turnout that gets the MU contingent going....that was missing on Saturday night.

Doesn't the fact of having more home games via the NIT appeal to anyone here?!?

Indeed!

When I was sitting in Sir Larry's 4th row seats a few weeks ago, I was thinking, dang, the last time I had seats this good was when I bought tickets for the last NIT game we were in .. who'd we lose to in miserable fashion?  Western Michigan?

Yeah, that'd be fantastic to sit that close again.  So either Larry's got give up his seats, or I'm rooting for the NIT, baby.
