Just a slap on the wrist.

Three years probation?!?!?! Seems kind of harsh to me!!!! ;D
I realize I may be in the minority here, but I really hope that report is correct.
So how long is IU's post-season ban?
0 seasons
From IndyStar:
"I don't want to say it's a reprieve for Indiana, but they're being seen by the NCAA as much less culpable," said Michael McCann, a sports law expert from Vermont Law School. "Maybe this is their reward for being forthcoming, and it's a message to other schools: be honest and you won't be punished nearly as much. The steps Indiana took appear to be the right ones."
>> Reward for forthcoming?!? But little culpability for the lack of oversight? C'mon. The Athletic Dept. should have kept stricter tabs on a coach with an already questionable character.
"An NCAA news release said the infractions committee took into account that the case created "a decimation of the men's basketball program" at IU. The committee also noted that IU had not had a major NCAA violation since 1960."
>> Oh, boo hoo. The case did not directly create a decimation: the coaching staff and AD were rightfully ousted and the players were dismissed by IU's choosing or transferred after seeing the writing on the wall.
IU's self-imposed penalties included one scholarship loss for the current season and a variety of recruiting restrictions. Those restrictions involved extra limitations on the number of phone calls coaches could make to recruits, which coaches make the calls, when the coaches could travel to recruit and the number of expenses-paid "official" visits to campus by recruits.
>> Do you see anything that's *really* restrictive there?
