Title: is DJ becoming...
Post by: bananahammock on January 07, 2007, 09:58:04 PM
the next chris thomas?  could have taken a chance (a big one) and attempted to get drafted after his freshman year but instead waits and ends up undrafted after his senior year.  granted, having a very good college career.

btw- where is that extra schollie coming from for next year?

Well I can think of some places. . . but. . . .

Anyway, oversigning for next year was a big mistake on Crean's part, and I think all it has done is put more pressure on James with the fans and the team thinking it is a forgone conclusion that he is going to the draft.  Sure, he may have indicated as such before the season, but don't sign a player so everyone thinks he is going.  Now, given his play, you really are in a pickle as you will have one or two players looking over their shoulder as to whether they stay or get "cut."  That has to be bad for team morale.  I thought it was a mistake at the time (and some of those signing are not "key" signings anyway), and it is proving to be worse.

No one is going to get "cut".....like it's been stated before there is an academic sholarship that should be available as well as the ruling that another regular scholarship is most likely going to be allowed for next year.

The extra signee had nothing to do with whether DJ was going pro or not, and I'd bet money that is the last thing on players mind when playing/practicing.  It in no way takes away from team morale.

I can see it now, Crean has on the board, "Play hard, or you're going to get cut next year."   Yeah, sounds about right.

I have made the Thomas-James comparison all year as well!!  As for the 'extra schollie'...we all know where it is going to come from--just dont' want to say :(

My thought on all this has always been that I doubted Crean would sign an extra guy based on the speculation that James was going to the NBA.  Thats too big of a chance to take, he could get hurt, or like he's doing now just plain sucking it up. I still think Fitz will take an academic scholarship next year because of him going to grad school...or he decides he doesn't want to play while he's in grad school.  Besides, I never knew that having too many players wanting to come play for your team was a bad thing.

are other teams all over the country signing extra players?  seems there would be a lot of schools able to take advantage of this!

I guess you can clue me in and others.  I have no idea where it's coming from.  Not all of us know.   ;D

I've also heard the same Fitz schollie speculations.  Apparently Fitz receives his undergrad degree in May.
