Kansas. And Florida.
The last 3 National Champions still use "Where the Streets Have No Name".

Don't we want to be the best of the best? I'd say this song can lead to good things ;)
Looks like it's not going to happen which is a shame IMO....the current intro is awful and a big step backwards.
It's just a song.

It's just a song.
That may very well be. But it's U2! What can I say? It's U2. It's U2!
I hate U2, their lead singer is a douche/turd. I don't understand the obsession with that entrance. Maybe if they used the beginnning part of it leading into a song by a good band or a great song that gets you pumped up. Not a song about religious identifiers. T.I. comes to mind.
Guys, it's not set in stone. The only way it changes, however, is if you take a few minutes and email Craig Pintens (craig.pintens@marquette.edu) and tell him you want it back. In conversations, he's left the possibility open for a switch.
If you don't take the time to express your thoughts personally, then you're just bantering on the internet, and it would appear, MU is somewhat immune to that .. I half thought it'd be switched by the UWM game. The poll on CS gives U2 an 80/20 landslide victory, with fans wanting their tradition back.
Gotta write, guys. Take 2 minutes and do it today.
I hate U2 as well. How about they use a new song that motivates the players and current students not a 10 year old song that apparently "chokes" up some alumni. Every time I see this thread it makes me think of the south park episode about bono being a giant turd...hilarious.
How about this... Have the Big 3 pick the song they want to use, and I am not talking about Ford, GM, and Chrysler. Who better to gauge the pulse of the team for what song they would like? As 4 year starters, I am sure they would enjoy having the input into the process.
Works for me
I did like the Streets have No Name intro, but was curious what the players reactions were to the new set up. What about a question coming from MU tv/Rosiak directed to the team?
After hearing that those other schools use U2, I'd rather have MU do something original that's their own. This is not the NFL, where every stadium uses the same five songs for the GameDay experience.
That Kansas pre-intro video was pretty cool. I do miss U2, I thought it really fired everyone up.
While I might not correlate it with a national championship, anythign that gets everyone loud before tip is good to me.
That said, anyone else think that "Thunderstruck" should go, and be replaced by the old slow-to-fast Ahoya?
P.S.- I didn't realize Tyshawn is starting out in Kansas...
I agree with everyone who hates U2 and Bono. Bono is one of the most insufferable human beings on the planet.
HOWEVER, Streets has become synonymous with MU basketball intros for me. I think it was first used when I was a freshman ('02-'03) but I could be wrong about that. Regardless, it's all I've ever known. Whenever I hear Streets now, whether it's in a bar or on the radio in passing, it gives me a good feeling and brings back awesome memories. I would hate for it to be gone for good.
Also, muhilltopper,
is the e-mail address ig.pintens@marquette.edu, or craig.pintens@marquette.edu?
Has anyone actually written to Craig Pintens? If so, what kind of response did you receive?
@ready2fly - oops. yes, it is craig.pintens@marquette.edu
And yes, I've written back and forth to Craig, as have a few others. He responded to my specific email, no form letter. He is generally interested in the "fan experience" and is complimentary of the passion fans have about this topic. He is persuadable.

Persuadable should be Craig Pintens middle name.
UW Badger football team uses the same song as well. As the team snakes their way through Camp Randall prior to running on the field, the familiar MU intro music is played.

Craig is very good at his job. He truly cares about what the fans (primarily the students) actually want out of their experience, and is very open to suggestions and comments.
I'd imagine many athletics administrators in major programs are pretty unaccessible, it's great how open to dialogue Craig is. He's one of the winners, for sure.

I just wrote him a note and he responded in 2 minutes. Literally.
Pleased it wasn't an auto response, and he was complimentary of my position, but in effect he wrote "thanks for writing and enjoy tonight's game".
Maybe if enough individual fans write then they'll understand there is a swell of support for the introduction used over the last 7 seasons.

+2
Except for not letting a very attractive Erin Andrews impersonator into the College Gameday look alike contest.
If I had to rank the importance of whether we go back to this song or not, it would fall just below my level of concern over what Krunti Hester is up to this very moment.
Isn't there enough people on macs on campus that one of them could put together a song that is unquely mu?
start with u2 insturmental, go to one of the ac/dc openers, then the start of Don't Stop Believing and finally the start of we are the champions.
now that i wrote that it sounds incredible, perhaps i should unteal it.
Probably need the riff from Money for Nothing in there somewhere, too.
If U2 is a no-go, I say we go with a WWE theme or even better

All the while watching the terrific display that is the 'wacky inflatable arm-flailing tube men'
If that doesn't give you goosebumps, you don't have a heartbeat...

Yes...U2 to Journey to Queen...that's definitely hardcore/tough.
edit: It would also inspire me to grow out my mullet and dig out my old stone-washed jean jacket.
I don't really care about the song one way or the other, but the atmosphere in the Bradley Center on Saturday was severely lacking. This was not because of the game itself, which was close until halftime. The place was a morgue.

Does grabbing it out of your coat closet by the door really count as "digging out"?? ;)

Not sure if you meant this to happen or not but this is the song that is played as the players take the court for the just before tip shootaround. Except the M.I.A. version. No T.I. But I would be happy to have any T.I. song as the intro. He has quite a few good ones to get people going.
