The iS8 classic has been famous for having teams bring in out-of-area talent to compete in the Jamaica, Queens league.  This year, one of the surprises would come from the Badger State as Jeronne Maymon, a native of Madison, Wisconsin, came in to play with the Unique All-Stars.  Maymon, a big-bodied 6-foot-6 forward committed to Marquette, made huge contributions for Unique in all the games he participated in.

"I always wanted to play down here.  This is where you get your name at," said the senior about playing in New York City.  Maymon got hooked up with the Unique All-Stars while playing against junior blue-chip recruit, Tobias Harris of Long Island Lutheran.  Harris then put Maymon in touch with his father and head coach of the Unique All-Stars, Torrel Harris.

The Madison Memorial (WI) High School standout believes that playing in the fast-paced type of game that takes place at iS8 has benefited him as a player.  "I think if I had began playing in iS8 as a freshman, I would have been a much tougher player earlier in my career," said Maymon following his 27-point-performance in a loss against the Playaz (Sr)'s in the iS8/Nike Fall Tip-Off Classic quarterfinals.  "The competition (in Wisconsin) isn't close to as high was what it is in New York.  The intensity of the game is much different and the game here (in New York) is much more fast-paced.  There are more tough and mentally strong players here than back in Wisconsin."

While Maymon was impressed with the quality of basketball in the Queens tournament, he couldn't believe the scene when he walked into the middle school gym in which there is no electronic scoreboard or game clock.  "I thought 'this can't be legit'.  This is where a lot of top ballers come out of, though."

While the Marquette commit is speaking with his Unique teammate, Tobias Harris about looking into Marquette, Maymon claims he is not adding any pressure to Harris' recruiting situation.  "I know he (Harris) has told me that he definitely wants to come visit," said Maymon of the prospects of the Big East school receiving interest from the 6-foot-7 Harris.  Maymon also added that he believes he will be back for the iS8/Nike Spring Classic.
