I'm sure some don't care, but for those that do, I wanted to dig into the path back to #1. Especially since the Wisconsin loss is the only reason we aren't currently at #2 and one win away from the top spot.

Sitting now at #8, here's a quick path to #1 primer, because if we hold serve at home, we have a pretty favorable schedule coming up. Until mid-February, we only have two road games where we are less than 70% to win per Pomeroy (63% at Providence on 12/22, 57% at Villanova on 1/30). Nothing is guaranteed, but here are games to watch in the next 2 weeks if Marquette is looking to move up. Cheer for the team in bold.

Tuesday, December 5
#11 Florida Atlantic vs #20 Illinois - Illini win makes our win there look better and better for teams close to us to lose.
#9 North Carolina vs #5 UConn - We could jump UConn, and while it's possible UNC could jump us, getting wins over Texas & ND probably keep us ahead of them.
Seton Hall at #6 Baylor - The Bears probably aren't losing this, but here's hoping our Big East fellows can do us a favor.

Wednesday, December 6
#12 Texas at #8 Marquette - Obviously.

Saturday, December 9
Alabama vs #4 Purdue - We need Purdue to drop one of their next two to have a chance at passing them, and this one would probably benefit us more.
#23 Wisconsin at #1 Arizona - I feel dirty just typing that. But Bucky winning would help us more than hurt.
Missouri at #2 Kansas - I think a second loss, considering our win over Kansas, would almost certainly put us ahead of the Jayhawks.
St. Mary's at #13 Colorado State - CSU is probably far enough back to not matter, but better to see those top-15 undefeated teams lose.
#14 BYU at Utah - As the metrics favor BYU, they could move up quick. Better to just see them take a loss.
Notre Dame at #8 Marquette - ND Sucks.
#7 Gonzaga at Washington - I'm a little surprised Gonzaga jumped us, even if by a small margin, but better to take a loss before they get to WCC play.

Wednesday, December 13
#10 Creighton at UNLV - Beating Creighton at home December 30 will sort this out, but an unranked loss would keep us ahead no matter what.

Thursday, December 14
St. Thomas at #8 Marquette - The only buy game I'm including, just so you remember to cheer for the good guys.

Friday, December 15
#5 UConn at #7 Gonzaga - This will depend on the UNC/UConn result. If UNC wins, cheer for UConn. If UConn wins, cheer for Gonzaga. Other results could matter, but that's the big one.

Saturday, December 16 - Be glad we aren't playing this day, it could be chaos and sitting idle while top teams lose might really help our case.
#2 Kansas at Indiana - We need KU to get that second loss at some point to pass them, I'm sure.
#21 Texas A&M vs #3 Houston - This is the only game Houston is less than 96% to win on Pomeroy until January 9, and they are favored in every game this year (including at Kansas, BYU, & Baylor).
#1 Arizona vs #4 Purdue - This will depend on future results. If Alabama or Wisconsin do us a favor, cheer for the team that takes a loss. If not, I'd cheer for Purdue. Purdue seems likely to lose a stupid game and Arizona has a few tough ones coming up, but a very favorable schedule after the New Year.
#9 North Carolina vs #16 Kentucky - Best to keep the Tarheels behind us.
#6 Baylor at Michigan State - Baylor should take a loss before too long, why not make it this day (especially if they're still unbeaten coming in)?
Alabama at #10 Creighton - I know...cheer for the Big East...but better not to let anyone close to us pass from behind.

Not going any further for now, but this week IF we win both we could potentially pass...
#2 Kansas (loss to Mizzou)
#4 Purdue (loss to Alabama)
#5 UConn (loss to UNC)
#6 Baylor (loss to SHU)
#7 Gonzaga (loss to Washington)

All of those seem unlikely, but I think we could realistically see 3 of them and move back into the top-5. At that point, we just need 4 results to go right for us, with some of the teams ahead meeting:

Arizona/Purdue (hopefully one loses then wins)
UConn/Gonzaga (hopefully one loses then wins)
TAMU over Houston
Michigan State over Baylor
Indiana over Kansas (for good measure, and if KU beats Mizzou)

Thanks for putting all the leg work in Brew.  Although, I don't want to trade a short term goal of AP#1 for the long term effects it would have on our resume and conference.  Thus, I will still cheer for BE teams for all non-con games.  For example, let UConn destroy UNC and Gonzaga, it'll just make us look that much better beating them in conference play.  Same with Purdue, I'm officially a Purdue fan for the rest of the year... let them have AP#1, I want one of our only 2 losses to be against the AP#1.

A little surprised by where you have FAU--Bryant loss is still brutal and their only really good win is against A&M (I also don't think A&M should be top 25 this week). I'd have Illinois in that top 15, even with the loss on the road at UT. I think it's gonna be a weird 13-20 this week.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

These aren't my rankings just my guess on what the AP poll will be. Voters are dumb. FAU stays top 15 because the 4 teams behind them all had worse losses, #18 JMU looked pedestrian against a bad team (and their MSU keeps looking worse and worse), 3 loss #22 Duke only played a cupcake, and #20, #21 #23, and #25 all lost

I think there will be a big gap between the top 8 and the rest.

Hence the jokes.   It is December.  MU is in a good place... one voter isn't as impressed.    Meh.

We're just 18 pts behind #6 Baylor, well in front (by 148 pts) of #8 Creighton.

Meanwhile ...

Surprised to see Gonzaga stay in the top 10. Surprised to see the Fightin' Mosers - who have yet to play a single ranked team - climb 8 spots to #11.

Clemson made biggest jump +11 up to #13.

FAU fell 4 spots to #15 but is still just ahead of an Illinois team that beat them.

Madison and Miami stay in despite getting routed.

Northwestern climbs in at #25.
