The label looks nice.
From the article:
Something blue and gold is brewing next month.
A group of Marquette University students created a new craft beer — '77 Golden Ale — that will be on tap at three local breweries and available in cans at Fiserv Forum on Feb. 4, which is National Marquette Day.
Marquette University President Michael Lovell announced the private craft beer label and the new student-run business venture behind it at his annual address Wednesday. A different crop of students each year will lead Blue & Gold Brewing and launch their own beer on National Marquette Day.
-
Is marquette opening a brewing school? Or is this just a redesigned can of good city beer?
-
Should make the can look like McCormick.
-
They should price it at $19.77 so we finally have an affordable drink at the Fiserv.
-
Should make the can look like McCormick.
Winner.
-
Should make the can look like McCormick.
The article mentions that as one of the label options.
Not sure if this will work but here’s the can:

Does it say where to find?

Just for good measure..

The article isn't behind the paywall. But yes... "will be on tap at three local breweries and available in cans at Fiserv Forum on Feb. 4, which is National Marquette Day." It also mentions they're looking into local distribution.
-
Irresponsible of da U to endorse alcoholic beverages, aina?
-
I heard it’s a coors lite knock off
-

Will be available at the FiServ on National Marquette day and at three local breweries, which I assume are the 3 that partnered to create it:
Good City Brewing, Gathering Place Brewing Co. and Broken Bat Brewing Co.
-

It will be when I am done chugging it and I put it under my foot and collapse it.
-
Iz it at leest grain free, hey?

Bravo

Yeah, I get why they went with "golden ale" and 4.5%, but not really a style I go for unless I'm going to have one and then hit the road. Chug responsibly though! lol

Figured good city (wasnt it started by alumni?) I'm just gonna watch from Brat Haus this year so fiserv's out as a spot for me to try it.

They could've gone for a blueberry kettle sour for a blue beer.

Love this!
-
It's available at quite a few places. They are even making sure Sultan can try a can at his favorite establishment!

They'll sell it at at Town Bank Arena, aina?
-
The MECCA? I thought they hated MU?

Upping the ABV to 7.7% would both be on brand and help avoid this comparison

NEED HELP - I help run the local Alumni group in Des Moines. We're already working with a local restaurant and Real Chili to create an authentic experience. anyone have a contact i could reach out to, to see if we could keep beer shipped her for National Marquette day as well?!

You should check with your venue. If anyone could get it shipped over state lines, it is likely them.

I'd give this guy a call.

Reach out to the Gathering Place folks. They're alumni and will help if they can
-
Funny that my need for beer watching MU BB is lower this year.
-
They could've gone for a blueberry kettle sour for a blue beer.
They should at least consider a cream ale at some point given the Cream City.

From the article:
"Among the discarded concepts: Big Ale, a nod to legendary basketball coach Al McGuire; Avalanche, a popular campus bar that closed in 1997; and McCormick, the former dorm shaped like a beer can."
Also:
"Advising the students was "the Beer Board," a group of Marquette alumni with business and brewing experience who contributed startup capital for the project. The board includes David Dupee of Good City Brewing, Joe Yeado of Gathering Place Brewing Co. and Tim Pauly of Broken Bat Brewing Co." All three are MU alums.
Marquette also has plans for a new version of the NMD beer each year with a new group of students putting it together.
-
I heard the ABV is a tribute to a former President
-
Not local, just the next state over, but maybe we should have went with these guys.

And anyone who graduated after 94 would have to go to Eagle park brewing instead.

I know the guy was low IQ, but implying it was 4.5 is mean

Nice! Admin would've gone bananas over their Apache Beer label.

Oh that's cool. I didn't actually realize David was involved with Good City (and this). Good guy from my law school days.

A Pollyanna exec has a frosh at MU. They are loving their MU experience. Happen to know the dad.
Pollyanna makes some absolutely righteous brews. There’s gotta be some connectivity there.
-
Can't wait for the Iggy IPA. Just throw a bunch bad crappy mascot ingredients into a mash and call it an IPA.

PM me. I can put him in touch with the cat at the B-school that is facilitating this project.

So... Scoop nation, what did you think? Spiral & I were both unimpressed with the beer. Glad they got to brew & showcase it, but probably wouldn't buy again.
-
I liked it.
-
Love the can design.
-
I thought it was decent. I’ll probably pick up a 4 pack to save a can. Excited for future brews and hopefully they could have one sold at all MU games.
Good City was packed before the game with everyone drinking one. Hat tip to whoever brewed it because I was really worried it would run out by tip. Looks like they had plenty, although it was a bit tough to find in Fiserv.
-
It was meh. Very cool idea. Happy to support the venture. Wouldn't buy a pack for myself
-

Didn't love it, but was happy to try it. Needed a bit more sweetness to it I think.
My next beer was the Central Waters Honey Blonde, which was way better.
-
One of the beer vendors told us that each stand got one 24 pack.

Agree. Too bitter
-
Not my favorite beer……can was cool.
-

Not true. The stand by us had several flats... And were being restocked. People returned from half time with more in hand.
-
Stand by 225 was out by the time the national anthem ended. Didn’t look too hard for it at other stands since the lines were long.
Can looked great.
-
Lousy at best.
-
Same assessment as BM, and I was in 221 yesterday.
-
Couldn't get it in 227 area. All nearby vendors out previous to beginning of game.
-
Got one for my wife and I at the stand by 222 right before the game. Golden ales aren't my jam but she loved it. By the time I went back (4min remaining in half 1) they were sold out.
-
I thought it was pretty good. I'm usually a macro-brew drinker, and it's far better than any of the Anheuser-Busch brands I'm usually stuck with in my corner. It was hard to find on the lower level though. Got mine in the automated Market coolers in the corner behind the MU bench about 15 minutes before tip, which is the opposite end from my seats. And the empty can made it home with me. ;D
-
More of a Pilsner than Golden Ale and would only buy again for the can.
-
4-packs are available at some of the Good City, Broken Bat, & Gathering Place taprooms. But I would recommend calling ahead as some are sold out. There will be wider distribution to select Sendik's locations with the next batch.
-
I saw 4 packs at Discount Liquor yesterday

Correct

Any word if they will be selling this at the game? I checked my local Sendik’s but the rumor is Village Leadership is diverting shipments to his house.

I couldn't find it at last night's game. Anyone else?
-
No—didnt see it at the kiosk by 114 or the bar by 118 or the store by the bathrooms.

Connie, like your handle on Esterhaus. He was a true all american. Will always remember his steamy relationship with Grace. One hot to trot momma and one horny cop.
