Woops.  Perhaps you shouldn't blame a TV show for your city's problems.

I saw the Baltimore police chief video the day it happened.

What a pompous ass. He actually has the nerve to criticize The Wire for being realistic. They used a statistic on The Wire that said "if Baltimore had New York's population there would be 4000 murders per year"

Does he think they're just making this up to be defamatory? I mean seriously.

The police chief should have blamed Simon for Season Five of the Wire.

Anything that distracts Simon from making more episodes of "Treme" is a plus in my book.
What God-awful tripe.
Hey look, it's New Orleans. It's a different kind of town. We have our own culture. Did we mention it's a different kind of town?

Hey I like Treme. I don't care about New Orleans, but the show's characters are written extremely well. And Khandi Alexander and Melissa Leo each deserved an Emmy. Also the last two episodes are SUPERB.

The police chief should have blamed Simon for Season Five of the Wire.

You can actually blame HBO for that. Simon went to HBO telling them that 5 would be the last season since he had nothing else to say about the story or town. HBO told him they wanted another couple seasons and he refused, so HBO "punished" him by making the 5th season 10 episodes long instead of the originally-intended 12.

I heard (by word of mouth only) that an additional season would have looked at the Latino community.

You mean like the commentaries mention of this?

I liked season 5 with the exception of McNaughlty going bat$h!t crazy.  He could have just tied a few real killings toghether and it would have been buyable.   The last 5 episodes of season 5 were great.

My beef with season five is two-fold.  First, the mcnulty plot was ridiculous and a pretty big part of the story arc.

Second, the whole press angle really just seemed like Simon was using his show for revenge.

I did think it wrapped everything nicely at the end.  It just didn't come even close to the first four seasons.

Of all the seasons, I think the one on the port is the weakest (Season 2).  Just didn't have the emotional depth that the other seasons had, and moved a little slowly for my taste.  Maybe I just prefer to see inner city drug dealers vs. the union stevedores.

It may have been poor but when do the Greeks ever get their "mob" status?!? ;)

Plus, the sheriff was able to parlay the appearance into two seasons plus of "The Office."

Weak.  Season 5, while perhaps not as exhilirating as other seasons to some, was what brought the circular themes present throughout the series to the forefront.  To the expose' on the newspaper (read: meadia), David Simon was a writer and worked another, personal theme into the series.  And it was brilliant in bringing you into the newsroom - the newsroom responsible for writing some many of the headlines Carchetti, Royce, Rawls, Burrell, etc. lived and died by.

You don't have to like it.  Just appreciate the genius.

Props to SacWarrior for recognizing Melissa Leo and Khandi Alexander's work on Treme.  Khandi also did an amazing job in the less heralded "The Corner."

Since we are on another "Wire" thread, doesn't Cadougan remind you of Poot?  And Vander of Det. Leander?

DeMaurice Smith is a doppleganger for D'Angelo Barksdale.  Now that the NFLPA  decertified, doe Smith get the low rises?
