Do all roads lead to Wardle?
« on: March 25, 2014, 04:47:44 PM »
I'm getting this sinking feeling that Wardle will be the next MU coach—despite all the cryptic posts from Goose and Keefe.

I can see the BoT... in their usual clumsy, ham-handed way...thinking that hiring Wardle will solve everything because he's part of the MU family. Why hire a coach who may skip town after six years when you can bring in a lifer who won't be going anywhere?

One problem: those other coaches skipped town because they were successful and other schools wanted them. Don't think that will be an issue with Wardle.

I would rather see Rob Frozena hired over Brian Wardle.

Wardle > Barone... but still we'd never win more than 15 games again.

There has been zero out there to indicate Wardle. Now we're just making up things rather than depending on unsubstantiated reports. Awesome.

I wonder what we Scoopers (myself included) would have said if we hired some eccentric guy whose record got worse in each of his seven seasons at a tiny college, capped by 7-21 and 6-18 his last two years.

Then I wonder what we would have said as we watched him go 8-18 and 14-12 in his first two seasons at Marquette.

At this point I'm just glad I resisted the urge to text all my friends who made fun of me when Buzz left to take less money at an ACC bottom feeder.  I was so ready to rub it in their face 24 hours ago that we forced out Buzz because we knew we had Shaka, made a huge upgrade, blah blah blah.

This is stupid, but so is refreshing scoop for 24 hrs, so I'll play along. The rational of someone staying forever is flawed. Let's say Wardle is good enough over ten years not to get fired. That would mean at some point in time he would be good enough to get hired by a program that could be viewed as better (bigger conf etc).  We are no stepping stone and no blue blood we are marquette.

We were promised an impact hire. Never said what kind of impact it would be.

It's Bruce Webber before Wardle if options 1-3 are not interested...

big daddy had an informative post a few hours ago...no mention of wardle.  you think doc doesn't have any say in this?  i don't think you want to rip the BoT...i'm not sure you can have a better member in a situation like this than doc rivers....

Hope the BoT realizes Wardle will always be there and there is no need to jump on his potential.  But yes I've thought about this all day.  It'd better be Howland if it's not Shaka.  Especially since he wants to come here.  Don't you think the other big east schools are in Marquette's ear telling them they'd better make an impact hire?

No, but potential candidates are dropping off the list. Smart is staying at VCU...Howland supposedly removed his name from consideration...Miller is staying at Dayton...and Masiello is moving to USF. Also, we hear that MU has no interest in Gregg Marshall.

I hope I'm wrong. But I can see MU serving up Wardle as a member of the family...a coach who won't be leaving at the first opportunity. I'm sure this is a big point with many on the BoT.
