Syracuse-Georgetown renew rivalry

Nicole Auerbach ‏@NicoleAuerbach  1m
Georgetown & Syracuse announce they'll renew basketball rivalry. 4-year home-and-home series begins in 2015-16 in DC.

Great news for the Big East and Fox.

That's great.  Now we need to get something similar with ND.

Should also prove to be a slight bump for MU's RPI for the next four years.

Agreed.  I would LOVE for there to be an annual Marquette-Notre Dame game played in Chicago at the United Center.  The city is a huge spot for alumni of both schools, and would guarantee that they both would play in one of the best areas of the country for recruits.

If that were to fail, I would try and pursue an annual game with Louisville.  We had some amazing games dating back to the Conference USA days (every game appeared to end with a last shot).

Wishful thinking I know...  Now that both are big dogs in the ACC, not sure they would be interested.

Not only would UL be good for our RPI, their fans "get" our basketball tradition.  They are fun and respectful rivals.

I want Notre Dame. I love beating those smug little leprechauns. A match in the United Center would sell out easy, huge pockets of fans from both schools.

Louisville would love that, we've lost 11 of the past 14 games to them.

Let's go with MU-ND; at least that's competitive.

Louisville has pretty much done that to everyone over the past 10 or so years.

To improve, you have to play the best.  I also suspect more 4 and 5-star recruits would get excited about playing UL than ND.

Those deals are notoriously hard to get done because both schools are loathe to give up a home game, even when you do a multi-year series. I also wonder if the Bradley Center would have a voice in such an arrangement.
I agree, though, that I'd love to see that. MU fans would probably be outnumbered by Smug Leprechauns, but it would be worth it.

Unless you're Kentucky then you love neutral site games! But I doubt ND would outnumber us if it was in November or December.  The ND alums/students would still be focused on Football and were the same size as opposed to Louisville game where we'd likely get dwarfed.

I vote ND!

Or they'd see the insane atmosphere from both a pretty evenly split crowd and that would help our teams image.

Give me Louisville! That's the rivalry I miss most.
(Maybe because I'm from Indiana, I don't share the ND hatred of most Marquette fans. Also lived in Louisville from 02-06 and got to see many of the epic games of the rivalry there. I can verify that UL fans respect Marquette.)

I am confident the rivalry with Notre Dame will soon be renewed.  They have played each other 116 times since 1920 (Irish lead 80-36), and we have played Wisconsin 118 times. The tradition is too good to pass up.  Even when both schools were independents, they played each other.

Give it a few years...

Sh!t I didn't realize we have such a horrible record against them. Kind of embarrassing.

As far a L'ville or ND I'd rather play L'ville every year, but I'm cool with either.

Georgetown is 8-2 vs. Louisville since 2000 6-2 since they joined the BE.  :P

Why not both!

Well BE/B1G challenge, game against WI, plus thanksgiving tournament then add on ND and Louisville? That'd likely be the most grueling schedule of any team in the country every year.

ND has no interest in playing us.  There is no upside for them. It is not a guaranteed win and they will likely have to do it home and home. United Center neutral game would be a decent economic deal for them but again risks the loss.

It would be great if it happened, but I dont think it will. ND used to play Michigan State regularly in basketball and that disappeared never to return for the same reasons. ND would prefer to play Depaul, a guaranteed win , as their Chicago game.

Well I mean there's that whole nonconference RPI thing.  Plus as we all know money is everything and a MU game, especially at the UC, would definitely sell more tickets than say a "guaranteed win" where they have to like pay the visiting team.

Not mention it's pretty gauranteed I mean we've beaten them twice in the 5 years I was here and that was during a pretty darn good stretch of MU basketball.

Do you get a big RPI bump from losses?  We're 5-11 against UL since Wade left, including a sad 2-5 recently (under Buzz).  Sure there have been many exciting games, but mostly they've been heartbreaking for us.  We haven't won a close game against them since 2004.  And we lost by 19 or more 4 times!
