Minutes
« on: November 06, 2023, 09:14:55 AM »
Lets see some predictions for season averages

Kolek 34
Kam 30
Jop 27
Oso 27
Stevie 24
Chase 15
Gold 13 (I see this as a 33/66 platoon with Oso, depending on foul trouble these minutes will balance one another out each game)
Sean 12
Tre 10
Others 8

This team can realistically go 9 deep on any given night. I like our depth.

I think you're too high on Kolek and too low on Chase and Ben.  I know Al will gets some minutes early on but I'm not including him here as I think he only gets spot minutes in case of injury, blowouts or foul trouble.

Kolek 30
Kam 29
Oso 30
Jop 24
Stevie 23
Chase 22
Gold 18
Sean 11
Tre 8
Zaide 5

Kolek 32
Oso 31
Kam 28
Stevie 25
Joplin 25
Ross 22
Gold 17
Sean 10

10 minutes up for grabs.  Tre and Zaide get a few minutes every game.  Al might have a lot of DNPs.

I actually originally had Kolek at 32 but he averaged over that last year. I don't see that going down.

I think Stevie is going to end up getting more minutes than a lot of you are predicting. If this team goes a long way, I think Stevie goes from unsung to being a major, major part of the success. I think he ends up averaging 12+ points a game and has a breakout year.

Agree - especially since there is talk of Stevie improving his 3 point shot dramatically.

Stevie is talented Bill Neary - a glue guy with skills.

I see no comparison between Stevie and Neary. I get your point, but Stevie has contributed more in two seasons than Neary did in his career. That said, Neary did play a role in '77, but I would not even see he was an unsung hero that year.

Two years ago I thought Stevie was a very nice defender and could be a good role player. I now think he becomes a real contributor and not just as a glue guy.

I'm not sure I understand the idea that Oso's minutes are going to drop by 5-6 minutes per game.  He's unquestionably one of our 2 best players and one of our 2 most important players, and we don't really have much depth in the front court.

That’s why I used the phrase “more talented glue guy”.

No OMax = foul trouble

I also think Ben Gold is going to be really good.

Could certainly be wrong,  but I think his minutes will drop and his play will elevate as a result. I think Ben takes a big step and allowd Oso to not have to play that many minutes

Don't want to be the turd in the punchbowl, but he really struggled guarding outside of the paint last night. I know MU's default is to switch everything, but it put Ben in some tough spots.

Missed both threes right, didn't seem like he had the puppies set. Form looked good though.

Ben is going to be a really nice piece on offense.  The defense definitely is not there yet.  He's going to be a monster as an upperclassman.
I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Ben has a lot of upside for sure.  Was a little concerned toward the end of the game it appeared he tweaked something in his lower leg - doubt it was shin related but something seemed to bother him.

I suspect Ben and Chase will challenge Jop for eating up all of O-Max's minutes.  I think Ben is a 20 minute per game player on this team.

Ben is a player and plays with a chip on his shoulder. He will continue to get better and better. High ceiling guy, IMO.

Ben said in his post game interview that it was his foot and he was fine.   His defense last night wasn't great, but IMO a symptom of a larger problem.
