Title: SOTG Chicago State
Post by: GGGG on December 21, 2015, 07:53:37 PM

Hank. Only season of him, may as well give them to him.

Without looking at any of the stats, I'd go with JJJ who's not one of my favorites.

I'm going Du also. 18 and 6 and finding his stroke.

Can't give to Henry.  Was 6 for 16, missed three two footers and 1 for 4 from three, against a bad team.
When he threw that ball three rows into the stands and was laughing about it as opposed to a "my bad".....

Duane had 18, 6 assists, but 4 turnovers.

I'll go with JJJ, who had 10 points, 6 steals, 5 rebounds, 3 assists.

I'm cool with JJJ too. Hank got hot in the second half but I'm not getting all excited considering their lack of height.

HE despite the poor shots? Or Swaggy Du despite the TOs? Guess I will go with Du. #spreadthelove

Yeah me too, if he finally become consistent he will be a big contributor.  His FT stroke has really has improved and he has looked for the open man.

I wonder if his good games are against small teams (Grambling).

Henry, more for the 12/9 first half when the game was decided than anything. Kid makes double-doubles look like a routine game.

A sloppy game.   A case can be made against any of them.
1. Duane?
2. Henry?
3. JJ?

Will go with Duane for a nice shooting night.   JJJ a close second with some very nice stat sheet filling.

JJ with the six steals.  Du was on Sims most of the game and was torched.  Also his four turnovers are a non-starter for me. Lazy.

Jajaun definitely sparked the team, and he filled up the stat sheet nicely. He's my choice, but I have no quibbles with Duane or Hankster.

As for Jajuan having good games only against small teams, he had a great game -- including the GW FTs -- against LSU. Played very well in limited minutes against Wisconsin. 22 points against Arizona State last season. 20 when we gave Nova a real run for their money last year.

He's a good player, especially when he sticks with what he does best.

Thinking back on it now and looking over the box score, I think I have to agree.  JJ.

Cohen opened up the game by hitting triple threes to open things up when Chicago state tried to pack the interior and dare MU to shoot from the perimeter.

JJJ contributed in many ways and boosted us.

Thought JJ played a good game on both sides of the ball. It's too bad he is going to be transferring and that Buzz and Wojo have been playing "mind games" with him since the moment he stepped foot on campus. Henry was good and Duane made some shots. I would say Henry by a slim margin. 19 and 13 is pretty solid.

but he tends to get snubbed so probably Duane.

I agree. Don't think it's quite SOTG-worthy, but Sandy has yet another game where he changes the tone by hitting some big triples.
You can see his confidence growing each game.
I liked how he shoved the arm of the Cougar player off him as they were getting ready for an inbounds play in the first half -- and had some words for him, too.

I noticed that, too. He never would have done that last year.

1.  JJJ for steals, stat-stuffing, and great passing-lane defense.  Would love to see some of that against BE teams!
2.  Haney - for continuing to drive and get fouled... for not turning a bad game into a bad game
3.  The Engine - this team is so much better with him on the ball.  Yes, he made mistakes, but he knows how to run the team.

Agree with this. Jim Mc even noted a few of the times Du got torched on the broadcast. Want to give it to Du and glad his shots are dropping, but it all starts with D.  JJ for me.

JJ for the all-around hustle to go along with the stats.  The play that stuck out was his hustle to get a loose ball, which led to Wally's put-back dunk.

Still going with DU but certainly thought that JJ had a very nice game.  Can't go with HE.  Shot the ball poorly and some of his decisions were very Frosh=like.

I like that for most of these games there has been legitimate debate on who the SOTG is. Henry almost had a first half double double and he seems to be the option getting the last votes

I said to my wife with about 2 minutes left that he was two points and two rebounds away from a first-half double-double. Believe he finished with 12/9 at halftime. He was a beast when the game was decided and on the occasions CSU missed a shot, it seemed like he was always the guy pulling down the rebound.

I absolutely love how Henry rebounds. Great length and just corrals the ball. Keeps it away from the defense and has a good sense of who is around him (notable when he allowed Wally to take a rebound just before halftime that would have given him his double-double). My biggest worry this year, especially when Teve left, was rebounding. We might not be a great rebounding team, but this year we are average after being absolutely horrible last year and losing our two best rebounders from a year ago. That's mostly down to Henry (also a bit a healthy Luke).

Steven Bardo said something similar.  Something like "he's so smooth, you look up and he's got a double/double."

I was at the game and Henry had the quietest 12 points a player of his caliber could have, which is not a bad thing.   But it does lead to discussions here about other players as SOTG.

I think we need to start analyzing some of the other performances by other players in the realm of how did Ellenson contribute to their success.  For example, Cohen executed some great shots within the offense when either Henry (or Luke) got the ball out to him for a great 3-point look.

JJJ's 6 steals shows his leadership in buying  into good D which wins games but not glory. We need the D each and every game to win in BE

Didn't get to watch much of the game, but went with Jajuan.

Henry certainly did very well too, and if Duane suddenly decides to transfer it's probably because he hasn't won a SOTG yet this year.

Wait, he's still on the team?  But a certain rumor-mongerer assured us he was leaving at semester since he was the lowest man on the totem pole...which Wojo "made clear" by giving him 27 minutes, and by drawing up the game-winning play for him last month.
