I looked at MU's top assists leaders and hoped that a few listed in the poll were at least PG/SG - that would qualify them, IMO.

Didn't know if Meminger and Thompson were PGs...so they're OTHER, if they are.

I think this poll will be affected by the era you went to school.  For those of us in the early 80's watching Doc Rivers was fantastic.  Also his retirement "warriors" speech has to count for extra credit.

PRN was National POY.  That's unprecedented.

I voted for Tony Miller b/c the greatest MU cager of all time (Damon Key) credits Tony for turning it all around.  That and I’m too young (31) to remember Lee, The Dream or Sam.

Butch won a national title and was MVP of the Final 4 and was national POY a year later.

No doubt when you grew up with the Warr..er...Golden Eagles will affect your vote. Heck, Diener and Butch are going neck-to-neck!

Boylan was the point guard on the championship team. Walton was the point guard Lee's first two years. I almost voted for Walton, but I voted for other. You left off Sam Worthen and Dean Meminger. Dean was the best. Thompson played power forward. His sophomore year dunks were allowed. Then dunking was prohibited, because Lew Alcinder was unstoppable. Thompson could do a 360 dunk in during the game. I am not talking a breakaway dunk like James. He did in a half court offense. Meminger would have been unbelievable in Crean's offense. Extremely quick with the ball.

Dean "The Dream" Meminger was the best.

Thanks for the history, Bilsu. And to think, I was only TWO when MU won their first NCAA championship!  ;)

I hope you voted "OTHER" for "The Dream."

There's only one vote there...=(

Can you imagine the bobbleheads, banners, Butch Lee Days we'd have for him nowadays.  The MU S.I.Dept wouldn't be able to contain themselves.

Seriously?  I don't know.  I was there when Hutch was playing and he was very talented, but i think Diener was a lot better than him.  IMO you've got to give it to Tony Miller.  Nobody played that position better in a Marquette uniform.

Sam Worthen was the point when I got to MU and I was there for the whole Doc Rivers career.  Since I missed out on enjoying Butch Lee's fine career, Tony Miller is the best true PG to me.  Hutch was really a 2 in a PG body.  I wouldn;t argue with anybody who chose Diener, but Tony was also a tremendous, disruptive defender, which gives him the nod.
