wow...my initial thought on academics was wrong. Hopefully this was Jeronne's decision not T.C.'s (his dad's nickname at work for UW).
The one memorial game i don't go to, he shows up.

The old man is an absolute goof.
He's 10 games into his freshman year and he's pissed? What...they should take away touches from Hayward and Butler for him? Cmon....wake up Timmy.
-
Shouldn't the kid be taking his finals this week? Sounds like he's blowing everything off. I think Chico said this could screw the team in terms of academic tracking.
-
Apparently, school's going so well he can afford to jet off to Madison in the middle of finals week to catch a game. ::)
-
You're absolutely right. All signs point to an overrated player who is being coddled by his family and friends who are making him believe he's something he's not. He said "He's not being used the way he needs to be used, so we're moving on." and "They're not trying to run the offense for him." Who does his dad think he is, John Wall? If anyone in his family or inner circle cared about Jeronne they would be honest and tell him he's not that good. Period. Who knows? Maybe he could be better but who's going to try to improve when everyone is telling him it's everyone else that's the problem. It's really sad. It's called a life lesson and I think Buzz taught it to him. At least someone was man enough to do it.
-
Well, certainly can't knock the Maymon family for keeping things on the down low. ::)
-
Are you f*cking kidding me? What a moron. He's 10 games into his freshman year and he's pissed? What...they should take away touches from Hayward and Butler for him? Cmon....wake up and get your head out of your butt Timmy.
Wait, you don't want to piss off Vander or the Memorial coach. We should probably just thank JM and his pops for the giant dump they just took on our chests. It's okay, that piece of paper you signed and the commitment you made to your team mates doesn't matter. Thanks again JM.

Maymon will go down as MU's "Boobie Miles" a la Friday Night Lights. At the end of the day, it was probably worth the effort to bring him in, but cutting ties with him was the right thing to do.
-
I really want to know what he honestly expected?? Did he have dreams of stepping on campus and being the next beasley? does he really think he is that good??? WOW
-
Yep. I'm done with this. I know all I need to know about TM and Jeronne. I hope they both find what they're looking for.
Curious how things go with the presser. As a condition of the scholarship release, he'll need to commit to an agreement not to speak about Marquette (most likely). So, I doubt we'll hear much.
-
What the "we" crap all about? Timmy must be joined at the hip with Jeronne.
-
Well, I guess it is frustrating to keep getting his shots knocked back in his face. Hope he develops a higher release and an actual left handed layup or plays against some way lower competition.
-
Why are we releasing him so fast.....I remember T.C. holding onto Mason's release until T.C. got the word that he passed his classes. Shouldn't we do the same for J.M.? At least wait until his final grades are posted. There is no rush...he has a month...possibly even two months before some schools start their spring semester, so it is not like we are holding up his transfer.
-
If JM wants to be in an offense that runs through him, he better get on the phone with some MAC schools ASAP.
-
I don't believe it has anything to do with grades. If you read the article presented at the beginning of this post, Maymon's father contends his grades were fine. Of course, we will never know.
-
Doesn't he have to have passing grades in order to transfer? Or can he just sit out the next semester without enrolling anywhere and not have this semester's grades matter?
-

Let them say whatever they want about MU. Anything else they say will only make him (Tim) look like a bigger assbag than he already is and will make Jeronne look like a bigger baby than he already is. MU will come out looking just fine and I imagine the coaches at Madison Memorial will realize what a f-cktard Tim is and it won't hurt the pipeline at all - hell, they've been dealing with him for 4 years already. They know what kind of a person he is. Call it sour grapes if you want, this kid is a quitter and his dad is a butthole.
-

NIU and Toledo aren't that concerned with grades, so he should be fine.

Hey, MUpanties - Don't beat around the bush! Lay it on the line, man. How do you really feel about the Maymoons?
-
But he's not getting many touches. They're not trying to run the offense for him. They've got him playing center and that ain't what he does. So we just kind of moved on and regrouped for next year."
After seeing this quote, what school in their right mind would want Maymon?

The Maymons truly believe that basketball is a team sport.

Oh, he'll get offers. No question. I don't think from any high majors but he will get a scholarship from someone. Tim Maymon isn't the first gasbag parent to come down the pike. I don't know all the details but if it comes out that Buzz stood up to any sort of buffoonery then Buzz gets a lot of credit in my estimation.
-
Good riddance, Maymons. Good luck finding a school that is willing its offense through a soft, slow, selfish tweener.

His dad seems like a loser. What a comment. They have him playing center. Yep, buzz broke O'Tule foot so maymon could play center. nothing like a spoiled 18 year old being a team player. i would love to know how the players feel. Good riddance to him and his family.
-
I wasn't aware we had recruited Hannah Montana to our team - TM makes his son sound like some sort of spoiled child actor.
Also...they wanted the offense to be run FOR Jeronne? Maybe we should just run the offense to score points.

I agree, need the APR points....I'd hold it until that was cleared.

Yes he does yet at the same time you have to wonder why he took him to begin with when pretty much everyone knew this was going to happen eventually with this guy.
-
Can Jeronne now go directly into the NBA and skip all this school silliness? I mean, the NBA has to find room for someone of his lack of size, lack of speed and lack of maturity.

-
What the "we" crap all about? Timmy must be joined at the hip with Jeronne.
Agreed. The "we" aspect is really wierd and I cannot imagine any father talking like that. I like the other thread comment about who does Tim M. think Jerrone is, John Wall? WE don't like how the offense was run, WE ask out of the scholarship, WE will have a press conference, WE will advise where he will transfer to. Maybe he gets an offer to Portland State, San Diego, Vermont, some where far away from Tim M. driving distance.
-
If JM wants to be in an offense that runs through him, he better get on the phone with some MAC schools ASAP.
Unless you're John Wall or Xavier Henry, I don't know of too many schools who are going to let any freshman be the first option in their offense...and Tennessee? I see that their leading scorer, Hopson, is a Sophomore so if he does end up there I doubt he'll be the first option for the next 2 years.
-
All I can say is Marquette basketball is lesser for these guys being involved in it. Pitiful.
I hope the old man saves his son a seat at the Madison Memorial games. Something tells me he'll be sitting right beside him in a couple years, talking about the glory days.
-
I don't get it: If players are getting a guaranteed starting position, minutes and touches, shouldn't coaches be given guaranteed rebounds, points, assists, steals and wins?
-
Does Maymon even think for himself or does his dad do the thinking for them both? Sad that he's got the wrong people in his ear and doesn't seem to have an independent mind.
-
10 games into his frosh year... just seems odd to be leaving already. We have mis-used Lazar Hayward for 4 years, and he has done it with pride. 10 Games? Come on Jeronne, your better than that.
Time to move on, no big sweat off of our backs, time to get a win
-
Lets wish the kid best of luck and move on... not the type of player i want at Marquette
-
In hindsight all the signs were there, but it has to be hard to anticipate this level of delusion.
-
I agree with the sentiment that MU is basically better off without him. He may turn out to be a decent player, or he may not, but I can't help but recall the only comment I made about him on these boards this year, and that was essentially that he didn't look very good, and did not appear to have a position.
He was smart enough to realize that he was headed for the back of a fairly long line as far as wing players go, and his opportunity was going to be under the basket. If he is unwilling to try to fill and improve in that roll, the adios muchacho!
I hope he finds what he is looking for.
-
Agreed: He does not have a position. He is too slow to play a 3 and too small and soft to play a 4. And now he's a quitter, too. Tough combination of factors.
-
Maybe he gets an offer to Portland State, San Diego, Vermont, some where far away from Tim M. driving distance.
With a dad like that... i dont think there is such a thing as "far away from Tim M. driving distance." I think TM stays in JM's dorm room until he can sell his sons future to And1 or some other BS brand in order to buy a middle income house in the madison burbs.

Its really sad these days when parents ruin their kids life. I dont want to see maymon fail but i do want to see his dad fail (which will only happen if jeronne fails). When going to a big school why does anyone believe they deserve a starting spot their freshman year? What ever happen to the word EARN. No one earns anything these days, everyone thinks they deserve something. It doesnt matter if its sports, job or just every day life; most people believe they deserve it and dont want or think they need to work for it.
Hopefully this doesnt hurt vander blues chances of coming to MU, but hopefully he will understand that MU gives him the best chance of playing at the next level, better then Wisco or Old Miss or Baylor.

The old man is an absolute goof.
Hmmm... couple of things here.
I disagree with the Maymon's take on the situation. I don't think Jeronne is good enough to have the offense run through him as a freshman.
I think Jeronne would have had a very good/great career at MU if he could have stuck it out.
However, with all of this said, Tim Maymon isn't being inflammatory, and if Jeronne is really unhappy, then I'm fine with them moving on. A lot of freshman realize they are unhappy (for a variety of reasons) and decide to transfer.
I'm not saying it's the "right" thing to do in this particular situation, but it happens all of the time, and the Maymon's have to do what they think is best for their son.
I'm disappointed he isn't staying, but I wish him luck in the future.
Case closed.

It's not the fact that he *is* transferring, it is the reason why he is transferring that is so annoying.

Probably not. ::)
-
It's not the fact that he *is* transferring, it is the reason why he is transferring that is so annoying.
Well, I'm not saying I agree with the reason why he's unhappy... but he's transferring because he's not happy.
I had a few guys I knew freshman year transfer to different schools. I love MU, but for whatever reason, they did not.
Obviously its slightly different for a D1 athlete, but at the end of the day, he's unhappy at his current school, so he's going to transfer someplace else.
It's a big deal because it impacts the team, but he's not the first kid to be unhappy and transfer and he's not the last.
Best of luck.
-
Probably not. ::)
You're probably right... but I hope it's case closed.
I don't know what was promised or told to Jeronne when he was recruited, and I don't know what promises were upheld.
But, I do know that Jeronne (and his family) were unhappy, so Jeronne is moving on.
Same thing happened to the kid out at UCLA, and many people around here immediately wanted to bring him in.
I don't think deciding to transfer is a criminal act. I'm disappointed, I don't understand his logic, but I realize he's not happy, so it's best that he move on.
-

But it's the reason behind the unhappiness. It would be like your friends transferring because they were unhappy that their professors didn't give them all As even though they partied all the time and never went to class.

First of all, we don't know how hard Maymon was working, so the "partied all of the time and never went to class" part of the analogy isn't fair. From all accounts, he was working hard. Buzz is pretty honest about this stuff, so I have no reason to doubt it.
The rest of your analogy isn't far off, and let's face it, you're right, and it does happen. I had 2 guys on my floor frosh year who immediately started bitching about the theology and philosophy courses they were taking. They hated those classes, and didn't think they should be required. Both transferred before the end of soph. year.
Now, theo and phil. are required classes, and have been for a long time. But, in these 18/19 year old's minds, those classes shouldn't be required and that's why they didn't like MU.
They should have known before they even stepped foot on campus that they would have to take those classes, but for whatever reason, they didn't.
They transferred to another school. It happens.
-
WHAT A COMPLETE BUTT HEAD.
where would you go to have an offense run for you UW Stevens Point?

In his radio show, Buzz almost every week says he will put on the floor those guys who give the team the best chance to win. He says that's not a criticism of any player, and he gives updates almost every week how some of the bench players are doing in practice and how well they are doing in putting themselves into position for more playing time.
If what the player's Dad says is true, then I really feel sorry for the kid. Not much sure I care where he and his Dad go to college next. Maybe he should just declare for the NBA?
And, I couldn't be prouder of our coach. We should all thank Buzz for doing what's right for our school, and most importantly for doing what's right for the student-athletes on our team.

We need to let Maymon die out and get on with it. We have a shortened team of young men with a lot of heart willing to go out short-handed and bust their tails for our entertainment. Those are the ones deserving our attention. They have the integrity to live up to their commitment to their teammates. I completely believe this is the type of player Buzz is looking for. This is why he is likely saying (under his breath), "Don't let the door hit you in the a$$."
I like to think of Marquette players as ones who play through adversity. Think of Dominic James coming back in the tournament. He had to be in pain, but it was for his team. All the way back to watching Butch Lee play with a sleeve on his leg, for his team. Most of the MU greats all played though some kind of adversity, and never complained.
This short (in so many ways) team deserves our attention, not the quitters of yesteryear that are now gone.

Sounds like the typical case of today where a parent lives for the athletic exploits of their child or children. Unfortunately it happens in nearly all sports and often starts at a young age and continues through that kid's whole youth. I've seen it firsthand.
I have no doubt that Jeronne's father was the driving force in this decision. Hopefully for Jeronne a day will come in his life where he's more able to leave the shadow of his father's desires for him athletically.

I'm sorry but I have to laugh at this. Comparing anything that happens in real life to Friday Night Lights is hilarious.
Was getting Coach Buzz Williams last year like when Coach A left for another team, and unknown Coach B took over the team in Friday Night Lights too? Was it a cliffhanger at the end of the tv season ?
-
I'm sorry but I have to laugh at this. Comparing anything that happens in real life to Friday Night Lights is hilarious.
Boobie Miles is from the Friday Night Lights book and movie. Which were written about a real life team. And Boobie Miles is a real person. Not sure if the comparison to Maymon is accurate, though.
