i will NOT buy anything with a "golden eagle" on it!  MARQUETTE or MARQUETTE UNIVERSITY or MU...that's it!  was at spirit shop a couple weeks ago.  they have some really nice stuff w/o the buzzard.  my sis in law bought me a really sharp sweatshirt a few years ago but it had a buzzard on the deltoid region...duct tape worked well

What a hill to die on.

You're really teaching them a lesson.

Just curious, do you think you add anything to the basketball threads?

About as much as, "Nothing on my Marquette gear will ever have anything to do with Golden Eagles on it, because they'll always be Warriors to me!"

This logo has been gone roughly 18 years now, so I'd say it's in acceptable "throwback" territory at this point.  I wouldn't mind going back to it as a secondary logo to the current "MU".

I remember lots of people being glad to see it go away when it did, but it only lasted 11 years.  The current iteration has lasted far longer, although the eagle itself isn't used prevalently.

The use of the eagle has been undoubtedly de-emphasized and even phased out over time. I think it's too much of a hassle to deal with since a significant portion of the alumni base refuses to buy anything with it. So why not just go with an MU?

They both were better than Vanilla Soft Serve, which was used 2500 times.

Vanilla Soft Serve isn't a joke, it's a description.

And I've only used it 1,488 times. Or 1,489 now.

Absolutely - I don't think they'll use an eagle logo on much for quite some time, if ever, mainly because it doesn't hold historical significance and it's not worth dealing with the strongly-worded emails.

However, we're creeping up on 30 years of the "Golden Eagles" name, meaning that there are about as many (maybe more?) living alumni who graduated under the Golden Eagles name as there are Warriors.  The fight will live on for some time, but a boycott of branded apparel that primarily comes from male alums ages 52-92 is probably not too worrisome.

Honestly, seeing who is leading that charge makes me more likely to buy Golden Eagle swag.

Xavier has a muppet they call the "Blue Blob".  The good news: MU added, as a precondition to X joining the Big East, that they must take the old Bleuteaux costume off our hands.

I like looking at those, but it didn't include from mid/late-70s through 1984, and damned if I can remember what it was.

I just learned that Bricky made it big time in the Marquette Journal.  Perhaps our most famous moment.

Get the 1977 natty banner with the real warrior on it. Not the lame Eagle.
Have that natty banner proudly displayed in basement bar.

Shout out to "MU Chi_IL"  who actually created Bricky (in case you didn't know).  It was never an official Marquette thing.

I’m half Warrior half Eagle, but I did purposely wear a Marquette Warriors T-shirt to graduation and my only swag with Eagles is from the 2003 tourney. Going to all the games in person then taking the charter to Nola are all memories I hold incredibly dear, and I can “succumb to the Eagle” for something so amazing.

That being said, over the years, I have become partial to the debacle that was Gold. It’s unique, strong, and generally not offensive. Yes, I specifically buy non-Eagle logo’d swag from the spirit shop, but my sons both have pretty cool stuff with Golden Eagles emblazoned on it. A dark navy sweatshirt with GOLD stitched with actual gold would be baller
