Nick Williams?
« on: November 20, 2011, 07:53:42 PM »
Ole Miss has a guard, #20 Nick Williams - is this the same Nick Williams that gave a verbal to MU?  And then ran with Tan Tommy?

After further review, it is, wonder if he wishes he was wearing gold for tonight's game.

Curious where you think he would be in our rotation?  After DJO obviously and probably Blue.

And after Mayo, and after Jones.  Not very good.

He can defend.  He is primary on DJO and not letting him get much done.

Yeah, DJO only got 20 on him.

Williams was 4 for 14 from the field tonight.

One can never know how he would have developed with the singular focus and regimen of only one program...that being said, I agree he would probably be buried on the depth chart at MU.  I do remember watching him at IU a few games and he looked promising....but then again he was playing on a team of walk ons.

If The Bronzed Beast of Bloomington had not left MU we would not have the stellar recruits now on the team. Therefore, Nick Williams, Bobby C and fellow travelers would be on the court rather than DJO, Vander Blue, Jae, et al.

To be fair, DJO did only have 2 out of MU's first 30-somethin' points.

Yes and he got a ton of points in transition, and very few out of the half-court offense.  It was a very quiet 20 points...a lot in garbage time.

You see the game deeper then 99% here.

That can get frustrating when you make a valid point in a discussion meant to denigrate a college kid.

Thank you...when I made the post last night, DJO had about 14 points.  Look, I tend to agree that Nick Williams would not have been a huge impact player had he stuck around.  However, he would be a senior this year and a solid player in Buzz's rotation having been around for three years in the system.

However, it could be argued that if Williams *would* have stuck with MU, that DJO wouldn't be here...and I would much rather have DJO.

Especially seeing that Nick couldn't do better than 4-14, 0-2 3pt and 1-2 FT against MU.

I hope he does well this season because it'll make this win that much more impressive and I hated what happened to him when he got Crean'd.

Of course you find it easy to denigrate MU's performance/recruiting/players brought in under Buzz, yet here you are, showing up to defend a Crean recruit.  Funny how that double standard works..

Nonetheless, I agree DJO didn't score a lot of his points 1 on 1 against Nick Williams.  Yet, I'd much rather have the 2 guards we have on the roster, rather than Nick Williams.

Garbage time was any time after the 10 minute mark of the 1st half.

It was a quiet 20 points, because he was not needed early.  It was obvious the game plan was to pound it in and get their bigs in foul trouble.  MU was not looking for the perimeter early.  That is why Gardner came in early, after Otule's travel.  MU wanted the offense from the paint ... and they got it.

I don't think DJO's quiet 20 had anything to do with Nick Williams D.

I'm in line with you on this point. Nick Williams would likely look different being taught by Buzz and I'd imagine that Buzz' loyalty to guys who grind it out would be rewarded with some rotation time during his Senior season.

The comparison is difficult because I thought those first 15 minutes were some of the best basketball MU has played in a number of years. Evaluating a former commit up against those 15 minutes isn't a fair fight.

But there is also a reason buzz let williams out of loi but fought for taylor.

I felt that was more because Buzz recruited Taylor (despite what Hurley said) and he didn't recruit Williams at all. I think Nick had a pretty strong relationship with Seltzer and Buzz was ok with letting him out of his LOI. Although I suppose if it was Shumpert or something, Buzz would have fought for him even if he hadn't recruited him, so I agree with your point, just didn't think it was the main reason for the difference.
