Title: Kentucky Job Description
Post by: DegenerateDish on March 23, 2007, 10:51:51 AM
Their fans truly are unbelievable. This is a fan base that actually put "For Sale" signs on Tubby Smith's front lawn during the season.

At least this poster from their rivals board gets it:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are a candidate for the KY job there are a few things you may want to consider before accepting. The pay will be great, and if you are a man who is here for the money and nothing else, then you should sign a contract immediately. You must know that if you do not achieve up to our fans standard; however, many in our fan base will go on personal attacks against you and your family. You will become public enemy #1 in the state. More hatred will be spewed your way by this state than Osama.
If you are not a great public speaker, please do not even attempt to come to the university. After our fans become displeased, they immediately find anything they can to attack you, not on a professional level, but on a personal level. You had better be so perfect that some may mistake you for the second coming of Christ. If you are not this person, then prepare for an onslaught of insults. But don't worry, as long as you win everything will be fine. But if the program starts to slide downhill, it will not be long before you, your players, and your family are viciously attacked.

Good luck candidates!

That was a very honest assessment, though. Kudos to self-realization.

Kentucky--where they have burned out, chased out or drove to drink and ruin four Hall of Fame coaches in a row.  Only the fifth one made it through (Rupp).  Why would TC want to go through that, other than for ego?  If Memphis can recruit talent, what is so special about Kentucky in today's time?  You can recruit anywhere today and be competitive.  Crean is building toward that with a lot of sweat put in.  Tradition has its problems--even at Marquette...but he is far enough removed to set his own agenda here.

If he goes, and with no AD, Majerus is the easy choice.  He'd take the job as he can still deal with his mom here.  He wants back into coaching.  Good interim solution.  But, Crean would be a fool to take that job based on what he says he values.
