Tonight's Attendance?
« on: December 08, 2009, 12:32:20 PM »
what does everyone think tonight's game attendance will be?  not, the sold, but the "in house" number.

i think including students, it will be around 9,000

pretty much everyone i know has decided to not go and watch from home due to the snow.

I bet there won't be more than 2 inches of snow downtown by the end of the game, and that should all be slush.  The 8 inches is supposed to fall downtown between 6pm tonight and 7am tomorrow morning.  With less than an inch an hour falling it shouldn't affect travel at all.

If you don't want to go to the game that's fine, but don't blame it on the snow.

Don't the students have exams this week? The section might be smaller than it was on saturday.

The attendance will be low due to exams probably and the fact that it isn't much of a rivalry. Rivalries are made due to their being good games as well as proximity.

Exams are next week, but between the snow, the fact that it's a Tuesday night, and the amount of projects and term papers due this week, it's fair to expect a really low number of students.

Plus, UWM sucks.

I'm a student and I know I won't be attending the game because of work and end of the semester papers.  A few friends are going, but I haven't really heard much buzz about the game on campus.  I get the feeling most students don't see MU/UWM a rivalry, either because the series is so lopsided or because most students aren't from Milwaukee and don't care.

But we'll see, I know I'll be watching the game while working on my papers.

According to the Badger board's logic, probably 1000.  Despite being in the top 15 nationally in attendance the last 3 years, with the average being within around 1000 less than their beloved and amazing Kohl Center average, they continue to pretend Marquette doesnt draw and our attendance is a joke.  I hear that only 300-500 people attend games, most of whom are close relatives of the team, and that Scuzz pays the papers and the Bradley Center to inflate the figures.

It doesn't matter what the actual attendance is.

Buzz will get MU to report a big number so it looks good for him.

If you want proof, go to the game tonight and see if you think it matches what is reported in the paper.

Inflating attendance is about the head coach's ego. It has been for at least the past 10 years.

Wish I could come tonight but driving up from Chicago into the storm is a bad idea.  I will have to watch it on 360 or something.  Disappointed for sure.  If the place is half full we'll be lucky.  If I lived in Milw I'd go for sure.

Living in Rockford, Illinois, I'm gonna blame it on the snow.

I'm missing my first home game in 5 years.

I hate Crean as much as the next guy but I'm pretty sure that the attendance figure is based on tickets sold.  Thus when all 4,500 students don't show in addition to season ticket holders, the crowd is significantly smaller than what is reported.

In the end all that counts is tickets sold. $$$

Some coaches care a lot more than others.

I did find it very funny, that last year not one single MU home game had "The largest crowd to ever watch a college basketball game in the state of Wisconsin."

Perhaps, the weather was a little worse last year than previous years... Can't think of what else would change to have a record that was broken so many times, not fall during 08-09 season.

I apologize for hijacking this thread with the theme of the other UWM thread, but if anyone thinks that we can somehow pacify the freakshow stupidity such as pointed out above by giving in to the interests of the UW sister school basketball programs, they're crazy.

I actually agree 100%.

But, there were a lot of threads about this in the past, and I was led to believe it was about the head coach's ego, not the actual tickets sold.

Hmmm...

Maybe it is just about the # of tickets sold...

Last train leaves Milwaukee at 7.35. Plus you have to get to Union Station then too.

Michael Hunt and crew said there would be 18000+ several years ago for this game so I see no reason why there won't be.

It doesn't matter what the weather is like downtown.  Its all about the people that have to drive into the city. I'd say with all the factors: weather, it being a Tuesday night and end of the semester attendance will be low.
