Title: [Cracked Sidewalks] The "Buzz" on Fulce
Post by: CrackedSidewalksSays on October 18, 2007, 08:00:06 PM
The "Buzz" on Fulce

There have already been rumblings on the message board about "surprise" recruit Joseph Fulce.

Here's his odyssey:

- Recruited to Texas A&M by then Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator Buzz Williams

- Signed to an LOI by UNO Head Coach Buzz Williams

- In July, Buzz Williams was named assistant coach at Marquette.

Coincidence? Probably not.

I don't know a lot about Fulce yet. But for Buzz Williams to stake his coaching and recruting reputation on him not once, not twice, but three times says a lot about the faith that Williams must have in his abilities.

Look at it this way:  Billy Gillespie wanted him at Texas A&M.  Some people are saying that Gillespie is such a good recruiter that we should be going after Garrett Stutz harder just because Gillespie is recruiting him.  If we want a guy that Gillespie is only recruiting and hasn't even offered, wouldn't it follow that we would want a guy that Gillespie actually signed to a LOI?

seems a little strange to me a recruit would be so loyal to an assistant coach.

AC's are EXTREMELY valuable to the recruit9ing process.  That's why so many of us are deeply disturbed with the staff's continued turnover.

no doubt ac's are valuable. but why would a kid with alot of good options follow a particular ac around the country--no matter where he goes? crean must have known he was "in the bag" when he hired buzz. you dont see it every day..which is why its strange.

and assuming he was in the bag--which there is no doubt---it seems overly contrived to wait until after shumpert's announcement--to announce the recruit.

Thread on a Houston hoops board (I have no idea what it was)-- said that BG overrecruited his class at A&M and also hinted at academic issues.

I have no idea whether those posts are true.

Confirmed, we all knew you were deeply disturbed...it's good you have recognized the problem.   ;D

Sounds a whole lot like the Saunders situation.  Except we're on the other end.

we wouldn't be able to replace Trend. Does anyone know if Fulce even visited MU?

Perhaps you might want to check in with Ron Curry when you have a chance. Then tell us if he agrees with your assessment.

The positives here are that he has been sought after by some very good programs----the negative is that despite that, Fulce has been spinning his wheels (for whatever reason) insofar as his career is concerned.

At any rate, I'm not a big fan of bringing in non ranked guys from 2,000 miles away-----we haven't had a lot of success with that recently (Mortinson, Bradley, Niv, Christian) ----all non ranked and come from a great distance. IMO there are plenty of non ranked players from these parts that would be better options----generally speaking (have better info on them and not likely to get homesick).

For all we know he may be a first team JC all-american at year-end. I will wait to make my judgement
