Ranking the conferences in the Tourney
« on: April 06, 2008, 03:10:44 PM »
Saw this on another board while looking for information on our potential candidates.  I like the way this guy ranks  wins and losses in the tourney:

We all know the conference records, but I thought it would be nice to score the quality of wins and losses - making a scoring system in which losses earn a (-)value equal to the seeding of the team you lost to (ie. loss to a 1 seed = -1pts...16 seed = -16pts) and a victory earns a (+) value equal to 17 - seeding the team beaten (ie. beating a 1 seed = +16pts...16 seed = +1pt) the power conferences fared thus far:

1. Big Twelve +76 (11-5) [average +12.7/team]
Kans(5-0)+38;Tex(3-1)+25;KSt(1-1)+8;TxAM(1-1)+8;OK(1-1)+3;Bay(0-1)-6.

2. Big East +44 (11-8) [average +5.5/team]
UofL(3-1)+28;WVU(2-1)+19;Nova(2-1)+15;Marq(1-1)+3;ND(1-1)+1;Pitt(1-1)-1;G'twn(1-1)-8;Uconn(0-1)-13.

3. Pac Ten +28 (8-6) [average +4.7 /team]
UCLA(4-1)+27;WSU(2-1)+15;Stan(2-1)+12;Zona(0-1)-7;Ore(0-1)-8;USC(0-1)-11.

4. ACC +23 (6-4) [average +5.8/team]
UNC(4-1)+35;Miam(1-1)+5;Duke(1-1)-5;Clem(0-1)-12.

5. Big Ten +10 (5-4) [average +2.5/team]
MSU(2-1)+17;Purd(1-1)+3;Wisc(2-1)-1;IU(0-1)-9.

6. SEC +2 (4-6) [average +0.3/team]

Ludum habemus.
